Subby you're an idiot. Quincy Jones is a genius and continues to make music and produce tv and films to this day. He has more talent in his pinky than you will ever muster in your entire life.

If there is anyone qualified to be a Culture Czar, its Quincy.

Just coming in here to say: THIS!

If submitter accomplishes one one thousandth as much as Quincy Jones in a lifetime, he/she can proudly retire and be a has-been and tell people to get off the lawn.

And anyone that can make a Ray Charles/Chaka Khan duet actually listenable can hang out in my cabinet any day, if you know what I mean.

If you airdrop a Great Artist in Buffalo and consume them, the +4000 culture can envelop Toronto without breaking treaty.

Any music savvy Farker fill me in on something?

The Nightmares on Wax tune "Les Nuit" was composed by Quincy Jones. I believe he sampled Quincy Jones. What is the original tune and where can I find it?

Because it's one of the most gorgeous (although overplayed) tunes I've ever heard, and I'd like to compare it to the original.

We'd counter by sending Corey Hart across the border disguised as a Catholic missionary.

/and maybe bomb a Baldwin or two

QJ is a has-been, just like Clint Eastwood, Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney (and his pal Youth for that matter), Willie Nelson, those AC/DC guys... The list goes on.

Oh, wait. Am I stupid? Sorry about that...

Quincy Jones isn't a fighter, but he could still kick all your asses.

CarnySaur 2009-01-14 11:58:30 PM
Quincy Jones was also married to the gorgeous Peggy Lipton, who are the parents of the equally gorgeous Rashida Jones. And if that's all he was responsible for, that would still be more than enough.

"Secretary of Has-Beens Who Trade On Past Glories"

It would be in keeping with all the other "Has-Beens Who Trade On Past Glories" that Obama keeps stuffing his cabinet with. What's the problem? It's par for the course it seems.

At least Obama will have access to hotpants anytime he wants through Quincy's brother, AJ.

Google says it's "Summer in the City."

Look at where he is, where he came from, and what he did in between.....he's one smart, tough guy. He's got my respect, and I don't really even go for his style of music.

That's where that sample comes from??! I never knew. I always associated it with Pharcyde's 'Passing Me By', but never knew where they'd copped it from. Learn something new. Thank you, Glitchwerks.

-- but thank you, particularly, Gangway Fathead for finding the answer.

Quincy Jones can be the Secretary of Culture all he wants, but
even Margret Thatcher must bow to the Prime Minister of Funk:

This subby needs to meet another so called "has been" ...

Samuel L. Jackson quoting Bible verses.

"AND YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME IS THE LORD WHEN I LAY MY VENGEANCE UPON THEE!"

Obama is lucky that Quincy didn't run for president.

Don't thank me, thank Gangway Fathead.

Now I'll have to track down both tunes. :p

An Anti-Jazz thread? Where's John Buck 41?

Glitchwerks 2009-01-15 10:53:31 AM
OK, found the original, and I'm pleasantly surprised that Nightmares on Wax only lightly sampled it and most of "Les Nuits" is his expanding on the original theme. Or "Nights Interlude." Whichever.

Big this, love Quincy, would love for him to be Secretary of Culture. Would love there to BE a Secretary of Culture.

What Nightmares album is Les Nuits on? Only have Smokers' Delight and Mind Elevation with me now.

Subby, I understand what you were going for.
So now I'll draw my own conclusion:
a) You are a troll who thinks you are funny.

OR

b) You truly believe the stupidity you spew from your mouth. Quincy Jones is a phenomenal composer and musician.

However, I hope he doesn't become part of our government. He's too smart for them.

If a man is going to trade on past glories like writing the Sanford and Son theme song, I think we're going to owe him a Hell of alot more than just a cabinet position.

Subby is a big dummy, and should press his face into some dough and make gorilla cookies...
