Yup, Joni Mitchell, I think she even has her own stamp now.

Also, Gordon Lightfoot and no, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is not all he wrote.

The Headstones are my fave Canadian band but they're not that well known in the US as far as I know.

Came here to say this about Lightfoot. He gets forgotten because for the most part he wasn't as intensely poltical as Cohen or Dylan, but he's written some of the most beatiful songs ever.

How about Daniel Lanois - you know... produced a few musicians you might have heard of... Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, U2...

...also has some gorgeous solo stuff. But yeah, Probably the Canadian with the biggest impact on popular music in the last 20-30 years or so. That or Skinny Puppy.

Your favorite band that no one ever heard of SUCKS!

Pentaxian 2009-01-13 11:56:55 PM
To actually talk about the artist in question...

Anyway, I don't particularly care for Cohen's music but I do respect him. His singing style drives me nuts. Also too many Hi-fi demos in 90's with Famous Blue Rain Coat kind of burned me out. Of course Jennifer Warnes version of "First We Take Manhattan" (new window) has a cool guitar performance by SRV.

Once at Victoria BC Fringe Festival I saw a performance of "McHomer" a one man performance of MacBeth using the characters of The Simpsons. It was very funny. Anyway the performer staged a joke intermission with a Corey Hart tribute album and he did Leonard Cohen singing "Sunglasses at Night", freakin' hysterical.

Cold1s 2009-01-14 12:00:56 AM
Canadian D&D metal at its finest! "God" bless our neighbors to the
north for this. And for Trailer Park Boys.

"Destroy the Orcs!" (really old video)
Link (new window)

"Deadly Sinners" (best line ever: "Enemies of metal, your death is our
reward!")
Link (new window)

"Goatrider's Horde" (the one guy reminds me of Matt)
Link (new window)

I'm going to see them tonight and figured I share some awesomeness
with you. Oh, and the vocals (both of 'em) may take some getting used
to before you may appreciate this bands awesomeness.
