"In principle I have no real objection to playing with Genesis at some point in the future," said Gabriel, breakingnews.ie reported.

That's still a hedge of a hedge. I think we're more likely to see a full Beatles reunion.

Who needs him? I saw the 2007 tour. It was great.

Anyone hear Don Ho's version of Shock the Monkey? I'm pretty sure it was one of the first signs of the apocalypse.

I'd kill to see the Genesis real reunion, but I think Phil Collins ego takes up too much room now.

Just play LAMB all the way thru and Im set.

Yes, between Phil's and Peter's egos, would there be room left on the stage for three other musicians? AND their instruments?

And who would play drums?

"Genesis reunion rumors" thread a success. See you all next year.

LonMead: Yes, between Phil's and Peter's Steve's and Tony's egos,

Get it straight.

If it happened it would probably be as they had discussed in late 2006. They would play The Lamb complete, followed by another song or two from the Gabriel era. No trio stuff. No Invisible Touch. So Phil would simply (or not so simply) play drums and do backing vocals.

The Phil, Mike & Tony reunion on 07 got that out of the way. This way if Gabriel were to join them Genesis fans wouldn't have to worry about not hearing any post-1976 meterial, since the boys did it in 07. This is primarily why they chose not to do any material prior to Selling England (though included a couple of tunes from SEBTP & The Lamb...in case a Gabriel reunion didn't happen).

Oh, yeah....I'd be there...

OMG OMG OMG! You got to get in to get out. How about Lamb Lies Down followed by Suppers Ready? That's all I would need to feel complete.

I Like Bread 2009-01-13 02:12:48 PM
Or, God willing, new material.
Peter's a competent drummer, FYI-- talented enough to do the 80s stuff. There's recorded evidence that he at least can play Turn It On Again. The 5-piece would remain intact, should they decide to do that.

I saw the Musical Box 4 times and I don't see how a real Genesis reunion could be better. before I get flamed let me say I never saw real Genesis but my bro-in-law did and he said MB was better

Musical Box is amazing in concert (saw them twice), and as far as representing what Genesis was in 1974, they certainly have that nailed down. But nothing replaces the real thing, and nothing would come close to having these five guys on the same stage for the first time in over 30 years.

IMO, as much as I'd love to hear The Lamb, part of me hopes they do a "best of" 1970-1975. I'd hate to have to sit through The Waiting Room, when they could be playing Watcher Of The Skies.

Knife, Musical Box, Hogweed, Watcher, Supper's Ready, Horizon, I Know What I Like, Firth Of Fifth, Cinemashow, The Lamb, In The Cage, Carpet Crawlers & Back In NYC, in no particular order would be just fine with me...

THIS. kinda.

i saw youtube clips of "musical box" and they were pretty damn good.
[that bandleader from Quebec was more like Gabriel than Gabriel sometimes was! it was scary]
i saw "Genesis at Shepperton" DVD and it was pretty good too.
so i say they were pretty similar in terms of quality.
teh only difference, in my mind, would be the actual real PEOPLE of Genesis [ie. the actual Peter, Phil, etc. etc.] would put it over the top of awesomeness. make it be 10x what Musical Box was.

/ it is Real
It is Rael.

// it's only knock and know-all but I like it.

During the 82 reunion he could barely manage some of the songs. The way PG sings has changed over the years, partially due to aging, and just an overall shift in style since "So."
I'd hate to see the guy wreck things trying to do "Dancing With the Moonlit Knight" or something.
Even the Collins/Genesis reunion transposed songs down a few keys so Phil could get through the set.

I'd be happier if they finally released an old LAMB performance, or at least made a feature length video for the album. I liked the video they made for their "Carpet Crawlers" redux.

Here's how it needs to go. I can't see doing the whole "Lamb" because there's too many slow spots. Also, "Ravine" is too short to get in a decent piss break. Also also, Chester and Daryl deserve to be in on this whole thing. So, like this:

Start with a bit of juicy three-man era stuff they haven't played live in a while, plus a hit or two that won't make the purists cough up blood: Dodo/Lurker/Abacab, Deep in the Motherlode, Land of Confusion, and Hold On My Heart - yeah, yeah, I know, icky ballad, but Phil sang the hell out of it in '07.

Bring on Steve for Blood on the Rooftops and Squonk/Wot Gorilla?/In That Quiet Earth/Afterglow.

Phil does a monologue and Mike "accidentally" hits the bass pedal.

Phil: "What the hell was that?"

Peter (offstage): "That was an unaccompanied bass pedal solo from Michael Rutherford..." (walking on stage) "...this is The Musical Box."

And take it away from there. Make sure Tony's got a proper piano for "Firth of Fifth", work the better "Lamb" songs in there, wrap the main show with "Watcher of the Skies", encore with "Supper's Ready" and everybody goes home happy.

Hell, they could end with "Harold the Barrel" and everybody would go home happy.

hardly the same thing. Beatlemania was their entire career, MB recreates specific tour performances. they not only have permission from Genesis but PG loaned them original props including masks.

What makes seeing Genesis "seeing Genesis" is seeing Genesis.

/Now, if they could get Led Zeppelin to open for them...

Anyone who sat through the interviews on the Genesis Box Set 1970-75, would know that Tony Banks was maybe the real ego here.

And anyone who can say who needs Peter Gabriel with Genesis is clueless. Gabriel was a driving force. I do wonder though if Phil can still play drums now? He was something else back then on drums.

Peter Gabriel is so cool.

In other words, hell yes.

See, an now Gabe wouldn't need to put on any of that makeup - since he looks that way when he wakes up.

I've been a Genesis fan for 34 years, starting with Trick of the Tail.

I eventually got most of the previous albums but never listened to them as much as Trick of the Tail or Wind and Wuthering. I've seen Genesis at least a half dozen times in concert and Phil Collins was always the amazing live performer on his drums. I think Mike and Tony wrote most of the music I liked but Phil made a big contribution too.

Now that we can see Youtube postings of performances from the Gabriel era, it's just not clear at all what was lost when he left. I'm not particularly big on singers dressed as fruitbaskets. Maybe it was better seeing them live in those days when they played local pubs and smaller halls. That must have been cool. I'll never know.

I've seen Gabriel a couple of times live. He is very good but he's certainly not a lot better than Phil Collins as a vocalist.

I've seen Hackett play. That was a much bigger loss musically in my opinion.

There's not a lot of good stuff on YouTube from the '72-74 days, not anything that really gets across how far out there the visuals were compared to anything else of the time. It's hard to explain just how strange Genesis were back then. But yeah, there's no need for a Slipperman suit in 2010.

Maybe it was better seeing them live in those days when they played local pubs and smaller halls. That must have been cool. I'll never know.

They used to rehearse all the time at an ex-serviceman's club (UK for American Legion hall) near their studio. If you make the right friends, well...lots of big bands still like to rehearse in small places.

I've seen Gabriel a couple of times live. He is very good but he's certainly not a lot better than Phil Collins as a vocalist.

Again, half the fun of a Gabriel show is the visuals. He's been ahead of the pack for decades in that regard.

I've seen Hackett play. That was a much bigger loss musically in my opinion.

Amazing what somebody can do with a guitar when the player's not throwing all their energy into making the guitar into a surrogate penis.
