It's referred to as "guyliner".

so...is there a time when it's just enough eyeliner?

Green Day rocks live, so if a new album means a new tour then hell yeah

strongbadd 2009-01-12 10:42:30 PM
No, those bands all suck.

@Likuid000: Hell Yeah!

/Green Day, with Jimmy Eat World and Anti-Flag was the second-best concert I've ever seen

Only ones I'm looking forward to (so far) are the new The Mars Volta and the Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit albums

Passive Aggressive Larry [TotalFark] 2009-01-12 11:17:03 PM
Well there isn't a whole lot of solid details on any of the albums these bands are working on, but the ones I'm looking forward to are the new ones by The Flaming Lips, Pearl Jam, Rancid, The Strokes, and possibly Dinosaur Jr. None of them even have names yet, but from what I read it sounds like all those bands will have new albums this year.

I was at the Green Day/Jimmy Eat World show at Giants Stadium on the American Idiot tour. Holy hell, the sheer power of the awesome. They also rocked when I saw them at Jones Beach in like '99 when it was them and Blink-182.

And the Yeah Yeah Yeahs get a partial eyeliner allowance for obvious reasons.

FreakinB 2009-01-12 11:24:52 PM
Also, is that Arctic Monkeys album that Josh Homme's producing supposed to come out this year? Really looking forward to that.

Lead singer of Yeah Yeah Yeahs is female. Subby gets 1/3 fail.

I was also the Giants Stadium show. Parking took so long that we missed the opening acts, but Green Day kicked ass. Too bad they've forgotten that they had two albums before Dookie though.

/New Sonic Youth coming soon. Makes me do the Snoopy Dance.

GrooveMonkeyZero: Wrong! The answer is the New Decemberists album!

It's described as a "rock opera," so either the Decemberists are going to jump the shark hard, or they're going to reach levels of awesome previously only theorized by Brian Greene.

That's what I thought about the lead singer of Tokio Hotel. General Ackbar told me the truth.

I can't wait for the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, those other bands can suck my fat pole however.

danduran 2009-01-13 12:33:08 AM
Lanois is behind the new u2 album? Maybe we'll have an end to all those stupid 'every song sounds the same' idiot threads.

FlyingPig [TotalFark] 2009-01-13 12:35:46 AM
New Lacuna Coil album comes out in late March/early April. I can't wait, but I'm also apprehensive. It will either redeem the meh factor of their last album, or send them even further into sellout territory.

Likuid000 [TotalFark] 2009-01-13 12:37:32 AM
Green Day came through Detroit twice on the American Idiot tour, once with Thrice and New Found Glory at the Joe, and with Jimmy Eat World at the Palace. Both shows rocked my face off.

mandingueiro 2009-01-13 12:46:53 AM
terrible bands. except for old greenday.

Ignorant McNugget 2009-01-13 12:58:03 AM
The day Mike Keneally's "Scambot, Part 1" drops I am going to invite fifty of my closest friends over to my house for a booze-and-pills-addled listening party and, in all likelihood, end up in prison until "Scambot, Part 2" drops.

I'm excited for the new Decemberists album. I heard some of those new EP tracks, most are pretty good.
"the crane wife" was a little bit of a grower, but still somehow lackluster/mediocre compared to "Castaways..." and "picaresque". maybe a tiny part of it was the production. maybe another part was the throwaway-but still somehow catchy "summersong".

i'm somehow actually a tiny bit interested in the new U2 album..
even tho i only own three ["joshua", "achtung" and that "blood red sky" live one]
that recent coldplay one was actually pretty good.
and the description of the new u2 album in the article sounds kinda neat.

Ignorant McNugget: Mike Keneally

Here's Mike with one of my favorite guitarists, Dave Gregory (new window). There's some good shiat here!

Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs... OH HELL yeah yeah yeah. :)

Fake Problems' new album leaked last month, and I like it more than anything released in the past two years. Coming out in February, can't wait to buy it.

Also crossing my fingers that the new Decemberists and Against Me offerings will be good.

Same here, and I didn't know Fake Problems leaked. I'll have to get on that.

I saw the Lawrence Arms in October, and they played a new song. I'm hoping there will be more to follow.

I'm sorry: I've noticed that the amount of musical talent a band
has is inversely proportional to the amount of eyeliner they feel
they need.

//I remember hearing a radio interview in the mid to late 90's where a caller asked them to play something from 1039 - Paper Lanterns if I remember correctly. Billie Joe answered that he couldn't remember the song.
///American Idiot is one of my all time favorites. I'll be waiting in line when the new album comes out.

The Glass Dragon 2009-01-13 08:55:59 AM
New 30 Seconds to Mars (hopefully)
New Coheed and Cambria (a long shot, but again hopefully)
New Static-X
New KMFDM

This is all I really care about for 2009 at the moment.

The Gene Ween band is on tour right now. Given Ween's prolific touring record, they're either gonna go out on tour or make a studio album. Either or is fine by me.

Saw them twice live. Always smashed my expectations.

These 2000's rock isn't good enough to flush down a toilet.

I "acquired" the new Dalek album as well. Sounds like Kevin Shields producing a Public Enemy album.

fair enough. i just hear very little about them otherwise. I'm not into hip hop at all otherwise, but I was intrigued by the idea of a hiphop band teaming up with Faust.

They previewed two new songs at a show thins summer, one with Thurston on vocals and one with Kim. They didn't have names yet, but sounded pretty good.

Based on Jack White's previous pattern of alternating between White Stripes and Raconteurs, i expect a White Stripes album this year.

Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle.
