Zamboro [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-01-11 01:54:34 PM
From the op:

"Such was reported by Russia's Pravda Sunday, and it not only goes quite counter to the junk science being espoused by folks like Nobel Laureate Al Gore and his accomplices James Hansen and Gavin Schmidt, but it has also been regularly proffered by many of the real scientists and climatologists around the world that global warming loving media not only refuse to cite and/or interview, but also disgracefully ridicule as deniers and flat earthers."

Seriously. He's getting this from the Russian equivalent of Weekly World News.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2009-01-11 02:04:39 PM
Be very careful what you say, denialmitter: if you actually insist we are facing an impending Ice Age, then you are admitting that all the "Global Cooling" stuff of thirty or so years ago was right, after all. You cannot use something you categorize as "proven absurd by history" to ridicule something current if you are now insisting that the original was not absurd.

Luckily the Chinese are spewing enough CO2 to overcome global cooling and maintain a comfortable temperature for all of us. Lord help us when pollution controls stop the last man-made efforts to keep the earth warm.

Ugh. I wish the Freeper who submitted this would out himself.

Global warming means greater volatility in weather changes, that on the long run will aggregate upward, not a constant upward increase in temperature.

Ah, but you see, this is the good kind of science. Kinda like noted economists Dr. Thomas Sowell and Professor Rush Limbaugh talking about how dealing with the issue of ACC will destroy the economeez and cost umpty-ump trillion.

In other words it's something that fits certain people's wishes, unlike most actual research.

Yeah... The actually managed to put out 1/4 of the US's per capita last year.

FTFA It now appears that the current Northern Hemisphere winter of 2008/09 will probably equal or surpass the winter of 2007/08 for both snow depth and cold temperatures.

Obviously they do not know the difference between weather and climate!

Another bunch of heretics that dont believe in The Truth about what man is doing to Gaia. We to put all these deniers together in one place, you know, concentrate them together, so we can silence them so that the rest of us can go on to save the World.

Righteous sheep with no proof proclaim mankind is to blame.
I think all of these climate change idiots are too self-important.
Nature is going to do what nature is going to do.
Knowing it changes doesn't mean you affect it, or that you can.
Barrack Obama and Al Gore are just trying to make friends rich.
Ludicrous hype, fed by mass media's interest in selling papers.
All of this panic and selling "carbon credits" is crap.
There is no scientific proof linking change to human activity.
Zealots just cry out to "silence the heretic" if you disagree with them.
Bet that everyone who was so certain last year has changed their tune.
Ever notice "global warming" is now called "climate change"?
Each of these people just wants a crusade, a bandwagon, or funding.
Religious fervor, frothing at the mouth, these people are chumps.

Whatever kills 50% of the human population and brings back some big predators is fine with me.

I find it so entertaining that the timeframe they talk about (70's to now) is the exact timeframe that human population has doubled.

Okay - You idiots that deny global warming - It's not specifically about warming, it's that the said warming during the summer causes extreme climate changes.

Every living thing needs gradual change - Not farking hot 6 months a year and farking cold 6 months a year.

Right.

Never trust a "right-winger". Never trust a "left-winger".

When you read or hear an opinion, it's what someone thinks is true (and they could be wrong) and wants you to believe too, or what someone knows is false but wants you to believe anyway.

Maybe the real answer is: "Trust but verify"?

Also, whoever keeps going on about "saving the world" needs to get shot in the face. The world will be just fine without humans, much better off probably. Make no mistake, this has nothing to do with saving the world, its about saving humankind's sorry ass.

So I dont get it. Let's assume global warming is happening, what happens to me? Or my kids? Or my kids kids'? As far as I understand, "short" irreversible effects take place over, say, a thousand years....maybe centuries in extreme cases. What happens to individuals? It seems over those time scales, populations will adjust to different climate and ecological realities well outside the perception of individuals within them?

Je5tEr 2009-01-11 03:52:36 PM

How much weather goes into a climate?

You obviously failed third grade math.
When you take the difference of something that means you subtract it, i.e.
climate - weather = difference

You want to know how much weather goes into a climate. That is division, i.e.
Climate/weather = quotient

Cheeze!!! Simple third grade math. No wonder the world is going to heck!

Somehow I don't think the world's climate cares how many Chinese it took to produce more. All this has been accomplished with hundreds of millions of Chinese without electricity. That per capita thing is going to seem pretty silly when they all decide they want televisions and microwaves.
