So much potential for a perfect headline. All wasted. Boo.

Well, this report is obviously an exaggeration. I seriously doubt there are 60 vehicles in the whole of New Hampshire.

/I blame cyclists

Hoping one of the vehicles was an animal control truck full of dogs that escaped, and all turned out to be rabid.

/Not really, but it would make a good King story.

Near the smoldering, twisted metal that moments ago was transporting the U-Mass Women's Hockey Team, a lone figure walked. His worn cowboy boots punched through the filthy ice which had formed over the snowdrift by the highway, the crunching sound muffled by the screams and wails of those still trapped inside their cars. A smile played along the man's face, making the ragged creases in his weather-beaten skin all the more defined. This scene was but a distraction, a stepping stone towards his final masterpiece. The people of Derry would know him soon enough, perhaps even learn his name. But for now, he was merely The Walking Dude...

I paused at "women's hockey team" and then did a full stop at "group of boy scouts," hoping the headline would get better. It didn't.

I leave here seriously disappointed.

keithjg 2009-01-11 03:06:40 PM
any bets on what state the vehicle is from that started the pileup?

notmtwain [TotalFark] 2009-01-11 03:20:58 PM
Wrong state, subby. Derry, Maine is Stephen King's Derry.

Derry, New Hampshire is the home of Robert Frost, who came to this fork in the road and took it, as did all the drivers on I-93 this morning.

How about "stupid Yankees driving in snow and ice"? Duh.

Geez, that sucks! Why don't you make it so that ... so that the truck driver goes home and he shoots his father, then he runs away an', and he joins the Texas Rangers. How about that?...

I put my money on some A-hole with 4x4.

I can't count the number of times I hear these people talk about how they drive, "Cuz they got 4 wheel drive"...but fail to realize it's not getting moving that's an issue it's the need to stop where problems arise.

No major injuries and from the look of it not much damage. I would've liked to watch this happen. It must have seemed like slow motion. When I saw the story I pictured more of a scene from Final Destination then just a really big fender bender.

"Another bus, transporting the University of Massachusetts women's hockey team, was also involved in the crash. Some of the women inside the bus wrote on a dry-erase board "We are OK" as a car blocked the door of the bus, preventing anyone from getting out."

Bah. Not much of a hockey team. Any self-respecting player would just throw a teammate against a window and break the glass.

I would call this the storm of the century to cause such misery on the snow covered green mile. In desperation, the shining youth will grab their needful things from Dolan's Cadillac, take the long walk away from the blood and smoke to safety. The rescue crews and other regulators are likely operating at on a skeleton crew until four past midnight, but everything's eventual. Hopefully the survivors, including Dolores Claiborne, and the girl who loved Tom Gordon, will make it to Kingdom Hospital. Tommyknockers.

I'm glad I just took Rt 3 home instead of 93.

And it probably was some asshole in a 4x4 who caused it; every snowstorm there's always some tool in his 4x4 blasting up the left hand lane like he's farking Steve McQueen.

Probably from Mass too.

I was basically gonna say morons who don't bother examining the road ahead and stare idly at the car they're tailgating. For Fark's Sake, Americans need to learn how to drive more like the Finns.

Yes, but the Wiki article also states that Derry, just like Castle Rock, Chamberlain, Little Tall Island and Jerusalem's Lot are fictional towns created by Stephen King.
