They just keep rehashing the same problem.

Look in the table of contents, obviously.

I've been to Index. I'd be surprised if 200 people lived there. There's some epic beauty in them parts.

Maybe they should ask someone more experienced in this sort of unique situation to join the effort.

There's going to be lot of finger-pointing done when this is over.

Try a quick sort.

i just checked maps.live.com, and there appears a few alternate routes, they are just a few miles out of the way. some may not be paved, and it is a wet winter, but still.

How do the locals refer to themselves, Indices?

Momzilla59 2009-01-11 12:25:25 PM
It's not in the town of Index, it's a small private community on the other side of the river that's cut off. It seems to be the same place that washed out in the last flood; the "road" is really just an old forest service road that leads to a trailhead and the houses.

Index? Is that anywhere near Orifice?

ohdoublereally [TotalFark] 2009-01-11 12:38:21 PM
That would cause an array of problems.

Perhaps they need to call in the National Debate Team.

People forget to research or look up (perhaps in a.....you-know-what) the perils of living where these people do. From TPITFA, that road looks like it was marginally engineered to start with. Can't really see how steep the downslope is, but from what happened.....too steep. This was going to happen eventually, and like so many urbanites who decide that the Green Acres route is for them, no doubt it didn't seem significant that they have only one way in / out. Given the "pie crust" or worse roads in many remote areas, this is risky business.

Then there are all the people who know a blizzard's coming, and don't even have a gallon of milk to fall back on......but don't get me started.

/live in a rural area
//have four (4) ways in/out
///count 'em

UPDATE: Just saw a video on TWC of the Index slide. You gotta be kidding me. This event was never a question of "-if the road goes," only "-when." Good luck with that.

Weak sauce, subby.

"Landslide strands 200 near Index. If only there was some easily searched list nearby that told you where to find things. "

That's a bit better.

What if there's a medical emergency like someone needing their appendix removed?

img1.fark.net Subby creates a good Fark headline. If only there was some overused Fark-cliché that he could have trotted out.

I prefer the shrill Dixie Chicks version.

Yes, it's big time flood country though. They always get hit hard. An uncle has a cabin up there. Last year we went back there after another flood and you could see the water line was about 2 feet below the friggin ceiling, inside! This is bad news, for Obama!

I hear the mayor of Index is a great guy, except he has occasional trouble with his appendix.

Foaming: What if there's a medical emergency like someone needing their appendix removed?

You can still walk over it.

And I hear there's another way or so in from the other direction. It's a very small community up there and all of the roads are pretty small "country dirt roads" minus the main road through town.

Gorgeous up there though. And the folks seem to be real nice!

Index is the site where one of the largest Wiccan churches was founded, so I'm getting a kick out of the Stevie Nicks references...
