Remember: People pooling their collective effort to improve the positions of everyone in the group is evil. Only the upper classes should prosper! That's why the US is a monarchy.

I also like how the article says the prediction is for Scotland to have the third largest per capita spending by 2012, yet even then it would still be behind both Cuba and Iraq.

"WELCOME to McCuba. Scotland is set to become the third most state-dependent country in the world. Soon Havana and Baghdad will be the only capitals that rely more on public spending than Edinburgh, according to economic forecasters.

....The forecasters - from the Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR), a consultancy that advises the UK government - warn in a report that the burgeoning Scottish public sector is "unsustainable".

The CEBR paper, commissioned by The Sunday Times,...."

Who is the CEBR; why was the report commissioned by a newspaper instead of the UK government; how much 'consulting' does the CEBR do for the UK government; why is there no link to the online version of the study; and who are the other 7 countries rounding out the Top 10?

Is this report relevant to English taxpayers only, or globally?

And just for shucks and giggles, I wonder where Israel, France and Belgium all fit when it comes to welfare states?

In Cuba's case, the government has done an amazing job at sustaining the people, considering the limited resources on an island under a US embargo.

Does the Palestinian Authority qualify as a country?

99.9% of the world trades with Cuba but it's America's fault they are a shiathole.

Cuba has a shiat load of embargos, Scotland, what's your excuse?

Scottish materials go South and then they are blamed for not providing anything.

The US doesn't receive anything from the US and they do just fine.

sorry Scotland. But you're no more a country than Palestine. Thus the metric is moot.

Oil of which 40 percent is in what would be English territorial waters, and of which 80 percent of the gas is in what would be English territorial waters, and being that over 50 percent of the Scottish workforce work for the public sector, even the oil revenue that goes to the treasury goes straight back to Scotland due to the workshy lazy incompetant workforce, so shut your hole.
