"Heermann's gulls are on the Audubon Society's watch list for at-risk birds. The creatures are surprisingly aggressive and steal fish from the pouches of pelicans and chase other birds to take their prey, according to the society's Web site."

This is a case of Darwinism at its finest. If you're a smaller animal, you DO NOT try to attack and steal food from a larger, more powerful animal.

This is why we have self-defense laws, isn't it? Are we obligated to let any attacker do to us whatever they will?

Dear Mr. Mikkelson:

Thank you for your letter requesting information about
ALKA-SELTZER Effervescent Antacid and Pain Reliever.

You inquired if feeding tablets to sea gulls would cause their
bodies to explode. I am sorry to report that we have no
scientific information to support this finding, but we do not
recommend such a practice. As you are aware, ALKA-SELTZER is
only intended for human consumption and this is only after the
tablets are dissolved in water. I would recommend directing
any future inquiries of this nature to your local wildlife or
forestry organizations.

Thank you for writing and for your comments.

Sincerely,

Sally S. Stump
Coordinator, Consumer Relations

FTA:

One of the birds -- a rare Heermann's gull -- sustained a broken wing and was later euthanized.

Djuric was cited and released on suspicion of animal cruelty.

Wow, this sounds like the kind of retarded trouble I get into.

Seriously. When I went to Sarasota about 10 years ago to see my grandparents, I was eating a hot dog at the concession stand (the white beach, the name of which eludes me at the moment), and the little f*cker grabbed my hot dog directly out of my hand while I was holding it.

The ballsy little sh*t-head

They ought to have a bounty on the farkers. Imagine what fun it would be to spend a day at the pier with a tennis racquet and a bucket of mackerel.

I saw a guy kill one on the Wildwood boardwalk once. It came down to steal his fries, and he just swatted it to the ground. It didn't get up. People clapped while a guy came and swept it into a dustpan.

No one likes those things.

Oddly enough, I live just outside of Austin (7 years now) and I have NEVER seen a roach here.Cool.

A human in my house that isn't supposed to be there will get shot.
If a human outside steals my ice cream, I won't shoot them nor kill them with a stick.

I recommend sticking them up into a ceiling fan. You know, those blades can be sharp. Cuts them right in half.

I very much doubt that. Although I'm familiar with seagulls from living on the coast, there are a lot of them here in Indianapolis. And we're a long way from anything that could be considered their natural habitat. I'm guessing Kansas isn't much different.

/and I'd use my tennis-racquet shaped bug zapper on them if I had a chance.

Having spent most of my childhood in Laguna Beach, I know how bold those damn seagulls can be. One of the stupidest thing I ever did as a kid (hey, I was 7) was hold a piece of pizza over my head. Within seconds all I could see was white and grey with bits of orange until a friend flailed at them until they left me alone.

So yeah, kinda have to hit them to get them away from you sometimes. I feel really sorry for the guy.
