Bless you, Subby.

(My neighbors, however, will soon hate you, since I'm now going to play Over-Nite Sensation and Apostrophe back to back at full volume.)

I got "Over-Nite Sensation and Apostrophe" when it was issued on one CD for the same price as one.

And hiding that sloppy guitar playing behind all that distortion, for shame. Seriously.

You might be interested in this page
(new window) -- about the different versions.

I also have the dual album version.

I also got in on the 30 cassettes for 90$ deal they had on the zappa.com back in the last century.

I bought a good tape deck and transferred each to CD -- which is a substantial amount of Zappa's catalog -- and they all sound great.

Wow. Good one! Never heard a live camarillo brillo. ..and one with Adrian Belew.

oldandwiser 2009-01-10 08:19:47 PM
DarnoKonrad........I got both of the records when they first came out. I still have them, but I haven't had my turntable hooked up for years, so I can't hear what the differences are between the LP's and CD's.

I first saw that Apostrophe' was released while reading "High Times" magazine. The good old days!!

Not my favorate performance of the song (too fast) but really cool to see a performer able to share with the audience. He was taken way too young, he is missed.

Dear Jerk 2009-01-10 09:46:14 PM
Ah, memories. I bought Bongo Fury on a whim and it was Muffin Man that hooked me on Zappa. Also, I got to shake his hand during an encore like in the video.

At the end of my life, my memories of 15 Zappa shows and several conversations with Frank will comfort me in my passing.

Glenechocreek 2009-01-11 02:14:24 AM
Shirtless and in the crowd, just like Iggy.

My, what shredding. Frank spanked young Adrian Belew.

permaculture 2009-01-11 04:44:37 AM
I saw Zappa in London in the 80s. He had a mug of coffee on a little table to swig from during the performance.

Everyone stood up and cheered when they came onstage, but Frank wouldn't start playing until everyone sat down again. "Hey, you'll be more comfortable that way."

Holy Cow! How old is this video?

Look at the frame at around 1:17... He makes a "devil horn" sign...

I wonder if this pre-dates Gene Simmons?

GT_Frog: Holy Cow! How old is this video?

Filmed Halloween '77. This clip is taken from the Baby Snakes DVD, which is excellent.

This was Frank's best band.

Theres a Microbrewer in Cali that is making a special limited time brew for each zappa album. They are on cruisin with ruben and the jets. Unfortunately that was the first one I heard about. I need to get the others.

mehwe 2009-01-11 07:56:11 PM
I enjoy that song sooo much,

1st time I heard it I was 9 and my step-dad was playing the record. Great freakin record.

"I am gross and perverted, I am obsessed and deranged, I have existed for years but very little has changed"

Another of my favs.

If you haven't yet, read The Real Frank Zappa Book. It's the exact opposite of a waste of time.

Thanks subby! Just watched the ZPZ DVD set this weekend and spent a lot of time realizing how much I missed having Frank out there shaking up the world. Saw him on the '88 tour -- incredible.

Yes! It's definitely a great read.
