I have actually been wondering, what for, and why, he has continued to ask me for money since he won the election. I understood how my probably $40 total helped when he was running, but what is it for now?

It's actually kind of been bugging me, since I figured the 1-3 e-mails a day from him/someone on his staff would stop once he was elected. I mean, it's nice to get e-mails from the President-elect on a regular basis, but he's needier than most of the companies I do business with, in terms of money.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2009-01-10 12:01:17 PM
Can't he just borrow everything he needs and spend cash he doesn't have ? The "conservatives" would certainly appreciate that since it's the only thing they understand.

Stinky McButt 2009-01-10 01:03:29 PM
I merely signed up for his email updates and I get all of these. It is amusing, Wonkette is right on target as usual.

I thought the exact same thing. Email: "Make a donation and you can get tickets to the inaugeration!" Me: "I'll donate on April 15 like everyone else, get off my case."

Nickers 2009-01-10 01:41:01 PM
I've been getting the e-mails asking for money, but I'm up in Canada and can't donate, so they're just annoying now.

Linux_Yes [TotalFark] 2009-01-10 01:43:12 PM
the reason President Obama has to ask for money is because the other party (i won't say its name) is funded by big business and the rich.

the average Obama contirbution is 20 to 30 bucks.

ahhhh, sounds like Democracy, don't it? remember Democracy?

Well, he has a Wii going into the White House, so maybe he wants a PS3 and 360 to sit next to it as well.

Hilary has debt. it might be for that. or it might be to pay off debt for the inauguration. or it might be so Obama can buy our government back from the corporate pigs who now own it.

Ehh had a great job at the time and could afford it. But yes I was a huge supporter, and still am. What pissed me off was the e-mail the other day asking me to give money to pay off "our friend" Hillarys debt. Not a chance in hell.

Heh, I knew it.

During Obama's campaign I was VERY tempted to kick a few hundred bucks to the guy, but the only thing that held me back was the fear of getting on a bunch of fundraising lists and having to live with a flood of spam and additional junk mail begging for money for the rest of my life.

I bet there were a LOT of people who were like me-- Obama might have been easily able to raise twice the money he did if his campaign had some sort of plausible guarantee the list of donors wouldn't be reused.

7of7 [TotalFark] 2009-01-10 01:57:21 PM
If you'd actually read the email you'd know exactly where the money is going:

"We're organizing the most open and accessible inauguration in our nation's history. And we're doing it without contributions from Washington lobbyists or big corporations.

Just like we did on the campaign, we're relying entirely on supporters like you -- ordinary people giving whatever they can afford to make this an event for all Americans.
"

So basically the inauguration festivities won't be paid for by lobbyists.

Worked fine for me.

But maybe that's too obvious?

You do realize you could always get a work visa then apply for residency if you are so dissatisfied with America. But that's probably too difficult, biatching is so much easier.

That's what I did. Donated a total of about $50 in September/October, and that opened the floodgates. Had to unsubscribe.

So, are you 9 years old?

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2009-01-10 03:01:10 PM
Linux_Yes: Hilary has debt. it might be for that.

Has she checked under the cushions of her couch?

Besides, the amount of money I'd have to give before she even noticed it would force me to eat peanut butter sandwiches and ramen for a year. She could easily pay off the entire amount without noticeably affecting her current lifestyle.

If I were rich, I would feel ashamed to ask the poor and middle class to pay off debts I freely took on. If she actually becomes broke, and it's a choice between my donation and her next meal, then I might feel more giving.

Alphax 2009-01-10 03:07:39 PM
(checks my email) Well, he doesn't ask for money, but there's the default red "PLEASE DONATE" button at the bottom.

Just choose which ones you want to reply to, if any.

1) He sent a non-fundraising email shortly before his acceptance speech on 11/4 (yeah whatever)
2) The Ken guy who wrote this is (I think) the same d-bag that railed against the AIG PR employee a couple months ago for doing his/her job
3) To all those above, there is an unsubscribe button... haven't tried it myself, as I guess getting an email a week isn't affecting me as much as it seems to have affected you
4) The Hillary-related fund raising is BS

NYZooMan 2009-01-10 04:29:10 PM
As eternal punishment for sending him $50 one night last summer, when you were drunk, Barack Obama sends a new email every day, demanding more money

Jeez, it's almost as bad as using your real name to pay for a classical music event.

/please stop the damn phone calls!

Noah's Arcade 2009-01-10 05:41:17 PM
When I got those Boobies-campaign emails asking for MORE money, I was like WTF? You want me to donate AFTER you've won a historic election which will guarantee you MEGAMILLIONS in "speaking engagements" and various business opportunities in 5 or 9 years? Oh, what's that? The DNC borrowed shiatloads of cash and now you have to pay it all back? Great fiscal-responsibilty example you're setting there. How about you just enjoy being the most powerful leader in the world and I'll enjoy the last $3 in my bank account.

bgilmore5 2009-01-10 05:44:10 PM
Yeah, it's beginning to get real annoying. Maybe someone in his administration should make it stop for a little while. Because of my job, I can't contribute. I only signed up so I could get the text message about his VP pick.

the lord god: 800 dollars I sent this campaign. Yet never received my T-shirt. I haven't been this upset since the guinness bar towel incident.

Off the $350 I gave them, I "bought" an election day shirt in early October. It arrived two weeks after the election.

I lost some respect for Obama when the emails asking me to buy commemorative mugs and fleece jackets. I'm guessing that he and his senior advisors didn't know what was being blast emailed out, and that's the problem.

I sent $200 before the election. It's the first money I ever sent to a candidate. It was all I could afford at the time and I have to say I've been turned off by the constant requests for money since. Especially the ones that ask for contributions before midnight so you can get in some lottery for a seat at election night/inauguration/fill in the blank.

I guess it's business as usual but it really is too much. I won't be sending any more money until the next election, and that's only if I think it's warranted.

It's the DNC list, Obama doesn't have a whole lot of control. If he wants to appear to be a good democrat, he has to raise some money for the party before he's President and it would be improper.

timetokill 2009-01-10 08:54:39 PM
I guess they're just asking for money for Hillary now:

FTA: Will you help us honor our promise and support our friend Hillary Clinton by making a donation of $100 or more today?

Wow.

What, it's my money, I can spend it however I want, right? Isn't that like 99.9% of the GOP platform, "my money is my money" or some other such crap.

Hey look, my jar of Republican tears is almost empty. Could you just please lean a little bit over this way... yes, that's it. Thanks.
