President Elect Obama was met by a chorus of senators chanting "Where's the Pork?"

burndtdan 2009-01-09 12:01:25 PM
good, this is how government is supposed to work. they aren't simply rubber-stamping his proposals.

Yanks_RSJ 2009-01-09 12:11:23 PM
I am by no means an Obama supporter, but if he pisses off the Democratic Senate, I may become one.

Obviously this is confusing some people.

If Obama regularly angers and frustrates the Democratic Congress, he'll make me giggle with glee. This is not a bad thing. Remember how fantastic 2000-2006 were?

Corvus 2009-01-09 01:16:29 PM
I was telling you guys all this months ago.

Defeating Republicans is easy. Working with congressional Democrats, now THAT IS HARD!

Logical discussions about the best way to proceed, despite differences in ideology? The hell, you say! That almost makes them sound like they're doing what politicians are supposed to do.

So far everyone is using the correct form of the word democrat when used as an adjective. This isn't freerepublic, is it?

Super Chronic 2009-01-09 01:23:35 PM
I'm all confused. We have an article about Senate Democrats actually doing their jobs, asking questions and being skeptical -- the way this whole checks and balances thing is supposed to work (and directly contradicting right wingers' predictions of a rubber stamp Congress) -- and it gets the "fascist" label?

People assign themselves the label/

Don't pay attention to Fark's fair-and-balanced-o-meter

And if it's coming from Politico, it's bad news for Obama.

Its better that you either adblock that failure meter or completely ignore it if you can't block it.

Its just used for flamebait justification.

Car_Ramrod 2009-01-09 01:28:30 PM
Hell, if I wanted Congressional Democrats to capitulate to the President's wishes, I would've voted for a Republican.

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2009-01-09 01:36:19 PM
I view this as a good sign that he actually IS trying to change how government works.Super Chronic: We have an article about Senate Democrats actually doing their jobs, asking questions and being skeptical -- the way this whole checks and balances thing is supposed to work (and directly contradicting right wingers' predictions of a rubber stamp Congress)

Meter thing aside, if they are seriously scrutinizing the package and its details, then yes -- it's a good thing. Given their history of not reading the farking bills in lieu of trying to inject their parochial interests, I doubt thoughtful analysis is what's really going on.

MFL 2009-01-09 01:39:19 PM
The problem is (and always has been) with the senate is you're dealing with 100 arrogant people who think they should be president.

SeismicJizzer 2009-01-09 01:39:53 PM
I actually see no problem with this, discussion and debates on how the stimulus package is going to be implemented is a good thing for the country.

/Don't give in to the pork Obama

Lawnchair 2009-01-09 01:41:49 PM
The situation sucks badly enough that any possible action, including inaction, is also going to suck pretty badly.

I know, but I'm questioning why Subby chose the label. Did Subby think he's making some kind of statement that makes Democrats look bad or Republicans look good? 'Cause he's not. You can always choose neutral, you know.

Maybe it's because spending all that money we don't have is a bad idea.

Holy hell, I can't believe I just defended congress.....

Lawnchair: The situation sucks badly enough that any possible action, including inaction, is also going to suck pretty badly.

Then let's keep the money and go with the inaction.

The way both sides are being critical of Obama, he must be doing something right.

Unless your last name is Bush. They haven't exactly been the fiercest opposition the last two years.

It's how checks and balances work. Cut my district a check and you'll get some balance.

...thus proving we must elect the Republican party back to power as soon as possible.

/Really, you'd rather have how they did it?

Tartha De Tear [TotalFark] 2009-01-09 07:35:16 PM
If they were coming at this saying, "According to my group of experts, this is a bad idea" then I'd be fine with them disagreeing with the proposal.

However, what I'm reading and hearing is "According to my over-inflated sense of self-worth, I want this money spent this way so it gets me elected."

...not quite the same.

It might be time to broom a few Senators.

MonkeyVegetables [TotalFark] 2009-01-10 04:42:44 AM
both Republican and Democratic Senators dislike the plan..

i think Obama is on to something
