Goddamn, I love Astral Weeks. One of my favorite albums ever.
But sorry, Van. You don't have the voice for it anymore.

Most of the concert is available on YouTube. It's just sad.

Umm, no.
That his singing is different in his sixties compared to his early twenties goes without saying, but to say he doesn't have "it" anymore is flat-out wrong. Bob Dylan, there you could make a case (but still fail IMO), but Van voice sounds great. Far different than he did in 1970, but still farkin' awesome. Like a 20-year-old, oak-barrel aged, single-malt scotch.

I also love Van's old studio work. I haven't heard much vintage live stuff. But these later live recordings make me sad. I think Moondance may be my favorite though. To each his own, I guess.

Great album and I've heard from several people that attending the shows in LA just how great they were.

Van's rich baritone voice is fantastic today. The songs from Astral Weeks sound different but just as good!

Voice classification fail.

Awesome album, but I've never been a fan of the acoustics at the Hollywood Bowl.

Smitty? From your crack about it it's obvious you've never listened to Astral Weeks.

Go buy it and be surprised. It's STILL excellent 40 years later and that's not gonna be true about anything Trent Reznor has done...

I once took some classes from Richard Davis, who played bass and apparently got most of the musicians together for the original record.

Trent Reznor is as much of an artist as Van Morrison and 40 years time will not only render current NIN classics, its another 40 years for Trent to keep working and pushing the edge.

And I'm as pumped as my father about this one.
