1.16 cups of sugar in a drink is an unmistakable indicator that something is not good for you. People who can drink something are not going to be surprised or concerned over the caloric content.

I can see how not knowing that it's 2600 farkING CALORIES could be possible.

*whips out 2L bottle of Pepsi*

29 grams of sugar... that's not bad. Oh... that's per 250 ml serving. There's 232 grams of sugar in the entire bottle. That's a hair more than half a pound.

I can't believe I used to drink one of these babies per day (at least). I've had this bottle long enough that it's gone flat.

Now, I bake a lot, so I spend a good deal of time eating high-calorie foods (and doing my best in the gym to keep that from becoming fat on my ass) but I cannot imagine even swallowing something with those components...it's not even food....

pandabear [TotalFark] 2009-01-08 04:32:10 PM
Sure. People always carefully read nutrition information on packaging and such. That's why our country is full of slim and trim people.

It isn't. The sign would only make it more difficult for them to lie to themselves, but they're obviously very adept at that.

Sadly the only people that would notice the listing or warning are not the type that would be ordering that monstrosity in the first place.

It is like the warning on a pack of cigarettes. Jumbo and Lurleen don't give a rats ass if it is bad for you, they just want it supersized and they want it now.

I am so glad New York instituted this law. There is some stuff that is seemingly healthy that has waaaaaay too many calories.

I remember getting some thai chicken wrap from some place, when they put up the new signs i find out that SOB had 790 calories (or something like that) all it was was sprouts, some peppers, chicken and a vegi wrap.

Could have been eating farking bigmacs for that many calories. Wasn't even that big.

That's like a day and a half's calories in one shake. That's disgusting.

Milton We use choicest juicy chunks of fresh Cornish ram's bladder, emptied, steamed, flavoured with sesame seeds, whipped into a fondue and garnished with lark's vomit.

Praline Larks vomit?

Milton Correct.

Praline Well it don't say nothing about that here.

Milton Oh yes it does, on the bottom of the box, after monosodium glutamate.

Praline (looking) Wel I hardly think this is good enough. I think it's be more appropriate if the box bore a great red label warning lark's vomit.

Milton Our sales would plummet!

Maybe if Baskin Robbins advertised itself as restaurant and not an ice cream parlor than yeah, otherwise, you should know that vast amounts of ice cream comes with vast amounts of not-good-for-you calories.

Drinks are the worst when it comes to surprise calorie bombs. I mean I KNOW that a burger with cheese and such is going to be bad, but there are some fast shakes (like McD's ) that aren't completely awful and then others like Krystals, that are as bad as this one. Not to mention the hidden calories in soda, sports and energy drinks. Usually I take the ummm how do you not know stance but when it comes to drinks, very few people have a clue as the actually calories.

at 100 cal/10 min (10 cal/min) for moderate running, 2600 calories makes for enough calories to run for 260 min or 4.33 hours, which is a half decent marathon time. So just run a marathon after you drink the thing and you are calorie neutral.

/yikes.

lordargent 2009-01-08 05:40:10 PM
Genevieve Marie: You're looking at about an 8 hour hike just to get rid of that cookie shake.

I've done 8 hour hikes, so I'm really getting a kick.

/could do an 8 hour hike, and eat a little less during the week. It's 2600 calories, not the end of the world.

/just don't have a shake each week. Or order the small, which is only ~1000 calories.

A large milkshake from McDonald's has 582 calories. That's a pretty huge freaking difference.

TheBigBadCrystallineEntity: Exactly who the fark cares about calories when you are at Baskin Robbins?

This. The people who go in there are not looking for a healthy snack, they're looking for fattening ice cream.

It's not their job to deliver healthy food to people. Their job is to give the customer what they want, no matter the caloric intake.
