No, the THIRD best they can come up with is that long-haired fraud from New Jersey.

Freddie Mercury came in first - no argument with that.

Bon Jovi is unspeakably horrible. He would come in number one for utterly tired gay-ass cliche songs.

The ghosts of Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Joe Strummer, Ian Curtis and Kurt Cobain are collectively making plans to haunt whoever voted for Bon Jovi.

That list was made for Freddie Mercury. He is the personification of rock and roll decadence.

The only thing more fail than this list is spreading this failtastic list over 10 pages.

The ghosts of Janis, Jim Morrison and Keith Moon want in on the action.

True rockers don't give a fark about such lists. The sell-outs get the glory because they sold out. That's the purpose of selling out.

So, the ghosts of all those people are quite content to continue whatever orgy they are now involved with - completely unaware that a bunch of dillholes from VH1 are having Brett fukking Michaels countdown the 100 greatest anything.

You can't objectively measure who is the best musician, except maybe through sales. It's entirely a matter of opinion, and on matters of opinion, idiots and music snobs are equally right (and equally wrong, depending on your perspective).

I like Bon Jovi, though I wouldn't put him in the top 5.

I kind of like Bon Jovi, but part of the reason is that sometimes when I'm walking by myself down the street I hear whoa-ay oh-oh woah-ay oo oo whoa oh-oh whoa-ay oo oo over and over again in my head, and it gives me a nice beat by which to set my pace.

I'm convinced that if Queen did not have Freddie Mercury, absolutely no one would give a shiat about them. Freddie's a good vocalist, but I've never understood the appeal of Queen otherwise.

NEEDS FAR LESS BON JOVI, though. Replace with Zep (any, but Page probably fits in best), and move Cobain WAY up.

Then you weren't paying attention. I don't think Cobain was a God among men or anything, but his band (1) effectively killed garbage homoerotic party hair rock overnight, and (2) wrote 3 great albums and 1 okay one.

They deserve their place ... about 1 million places higher than Ugly Kid farkin' Joe ... what a joke that band was. White Zombie? Flash in the pan.

Nirvana was a great band and a game changer. It's not anyone else's fault but your own that you only heard one song. You can't deny someone status, especially how big their fame was, just because YOU haven't heard anything else. Live performance of Lithium at the MTV awards back in the day ALONE should give them rock icon status.

So go somewhere else with your Ugly Kid Joe.

Not saying I like UKJ, or even half the other bands I listened to back in the day, but that's besides the point. I can deny fame to anyone I want by not giving them attention. Fame and such falls under that dreaded "opinion" argument, so if you don't like it, well, piss off. Couldn't care less, even if I tried.

though I applaud the sentiment, I still don't see Cobain as anything other than a mainstream version of what was done better by other, lesser known bands. Hint: if you only know of Husker Du, Sonic youth, Dinosaur Jr as bands that Cobain liked but none of their music, you're worshipping a false idol.

I give Cobain much kudos for helping kill of hair metal, helping to give said lesser known acts a higher profile, and helping pave the way for bands that would've otherwise languished in obscurity had they been released a few years earlier. But I think Cobain gets a little too much credit for those things as bands like Jane's Addiction and Faith No more also helped kick down those doors.

well no, you can't deny someone fame by willfully ignoring them, because they are prominent figures in the national zeitgeist. burying your head in the sand doesn't make things go away.

No, fame is not objective. Fame does not speak to quality. Famous = widely known. There is no argument there. Cobain is not famous for blowing his brains out. The band has sold over 25 million albums in the US alone. That = famous. No argument.

Anyone who can operate a keyboard wouldn't believe that Cobain is only famous for his suicide, so I'll be done with this post. No point in feeding into your argument that was clearly meant to bait.

Thanks for clarifying that. Your musical taste explains why you'd prefer foo fighters, The pop equivalent of a Mentos commercial, over nirvana. Dave Grohl is the Phil Collins of grunge

The hell? Who ever said I liked Foo Fighters?

WaltzingMathilda: Read: I will not admit I was wrong or that I was purposefully trying to get attention.

No, I stand behind my opinion that one of the only reasons why he's famous and was jokingly added in a headline was because he ate some lead. Due to drug use, Courtney Love.. couldn't care. Hey, I could be wrong, his music could have rocked, but ya know what? I honestly don't care.

I'm with you 100% on the other stuff, and only like a handful of Foo songs, but I really think Dave Grohl is a pretty awesome guy. I don't know, are they even trying to be grunge? Or just pop rock?

I saw a video where Foo was playing on the same night as Arcade Fire in the same city. Grohl told the crowd he appreciated them coming, but that they really shouldn't have missed Arcade Fire. Then he played "Keep the Car Running" (an AF song) ... I thought that was really farking cool.

i wasn't really directing that comment at you, just at that seems to be the pervading thought of Nirvana fans. I like Nirvana, they just get way more credit than they deserve. And they certainly didn't kill hair Metal by themselves. The genre itself was already dying out and bands such as Jane's Addiction and Faith No More helped chip away at that bullshiat. Like 'em or not, Pearl Jam also helped Nirvana kill that shiat.

Sorry, but the more I hear about Nirvana, the more I get the impression that Cobain's legacy is that better bands wouldn't have completely faded into obscurity. That, and I keep seeing Nevermind make every other Top 10 Best Albums Evar lists and I get the feeling that if Kurt hadn't offed himself, it probably would not rank as high. Oh, and it's also annoying that In Utero is probably as noisy as any Sonic Youth album (well, maybe not their really early stuff, but that's Meh), yet SY is "too weird" for mainstream.
