LAUER: I want to talk about [Roland] Burris in a second, but let, let me just get to this little controversy. You've been all over the blogs in the last day or so. We cancelled your appearance here on Tuesday. And from what I've been reading you thought you were banned for life from the show. Did, were you behind that report?

COULTER: No, I didn't say that. That was from a reliable news report that, by the way, had never, has never had to retract a report on exploding GM trucks.

I don't care who ya are...that's funny!

Ann Coulter is an act. It's designed to sell books and public appearances.

I used to just hate her, but now that I see she's just an act, I don't care. She's got no real power.

She CAN'T be real. NOBODY is that far right, it's cartoonish.

I've long suspected she's an actress on the RNC payroll who's only out there to be a lightning rod for controversy; to serve as an extreme example someone even a douche like Trent Lott can point to in order to paint himself as a "moderate."

Oh, I can understand NBC bringing her back on. It's all about ratings and viewership. But, personally, I would just put out a statement saying "We haven't banned Ann from our networks. We just don't see any reason to invite her on at this time."

Confabulat [TotalFark] 2009-01-08 10:31:06 AM
I think the Today show has banned me too. They haven't had me on once this year! I'm available Tuesdays AND Wednesdays!

This.

Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter aren't real. They're just acts. They don't believe a word of what they say, they just know that it sells books. Limbaugh, Coulter, and O'Reilly take themselves about as seriously as Jerry Springer and professional wrestlers. Problem is, just like Springer and pro wrestling, some dumbasses out there are completely convinced that it's all real and that these are the people who really have it figured out and are the people we should all aspire to be.

nope. Nielsen/Arbitron pays people money to let their viewing be monitored. of course, they have to fill out a huge assed survey as well, to ensure that a proper cross section is represented. there are still a few DMAs (Designated Market Areas) that do diaries. as in, the people write down what they watch.

That's exactly the kind of shiat that has shifted the entire political debate in this country to the right over the last couple decades. When ultra extremist whackos like Coulter and Hannity are considered the right wing in the media and the people brought in to debate the extremists are comparatively moderate people, the public perception of the middle ground ends up shifting to the right.

That statement is idiotic and shows that she still never bothered to understand how voting in Illinois works and why the "present" vote is sometimes used. There's no "ouch" there unless you're a right winger who also never bothered to learn about it.

I was a "Nielsen" for a week.

I was shocked at how sloppy the entire process was. Filling out that book was a pain in the ass, especially if you used your DVR to record stuff.

And yes, you do get compensated. What did I receive? A five dollar bill. Cash. Surely a sign of a sophisticated operation.

as far as i can tell, that was a test study from three years ago, not something used on a large scale by ad agencies and media buyers now. i work in a media buying department -- neilsen and arbitron are still the big dogs as far as i know.

oh wow, seriously? supposedly (and this is the arbitron saleslady talking here) the households are supposed to get $50 checks that come with the survey book. that's some crap right there. i will ask about your experience the next time she comes through to show us all the new bells and whistles, if you don't mind.

This was a good six years ago. And I had cable then (satellite now, new house). I don't remember Arbitron being mentioned, so maybe they partnered/merged and improved things a bit.

Wow, Coulter sounded like a petulant whiny biatch from beginning to end....wonder why?

And people think she's funny or something? You know, back in second grade or so most of us laughed when the dorky kid tripped and broke his glasses or the the fat girl spilled sloppy joe all over her mumu.

BUT WE GREW THE FARK UP. Most of the rest became neocons, apparently.
