Andrew Dubber, one of the guys behind Twadio, and a Senior Lecturer in Music Industries at Birmingham City University, said: "With most of the songs on the radio these days, you already know how they go. You can just hear them in your head.

"So why actually play them? We use the simple suggestive power of the mere mention of a catchy song to start that tune playing in your brain."

Twat.

I'm going to take this idea to the next level. My silent radio station doesn't send you anything. It just lets you think of your own songs to get stuck in your head.

Help-Im-Sober 2009-01-08 08:01:07 AM
My radio is invisible and silent. You have to first imagine that you are reading the song titles, and then the song will be stuck in your head.

Any investors? EIP

What's funny is that this is stupid (and it very well is stupid), but somehow people still think that John Cage is some kind of farking genius.

csi_yellowknife: I play a lot of John Cage on my Twadio station.

It just repeats the same tune every 4 minutes and 33 seconds, though.

/Or, variations on the same tune, if you're a real music nerd.

What a stunning commentary on the state of music in this day and age. One wonders if the next part of the business model is to actually play the hooks from all your favorite songs, so you get some music enjoyment, but only in 20 second increments (and 60 seconds of ads of course). You know, to keep up with your oh-so-busy schedule.

But why stop there? Surely society has moved to a point where 3:20 is far too long for pop hits? Isn't it time that we demanded our pop stars to "just get to the good part already"? Really the rest of the song is just a bunch of stupid words and notes, who needs it? Can't you just yell "Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeeeeaaaahhh" and be done with it?

/My lawn, you should get off it.

A profoundly stupid idea, off-the-scale stupid, light years beyond most other stupid ideas.

Really, really, farkin' stupid.

Actually a nice wide band of no radio would be nice for those who have the iPod-to-radio thingys.

For some reason this put me in mind of Numbers Stations (new window). I guess it's more subliminal than covert though.

Dumbest thing I've heard since "beer-flavored" popcorn.

I did appreciate the link, though, as it tuned me in to the Hamster powered paper shredder.

What moron wrote this? It's bad enough that editors are being taken out of the media stream. Now we can't even get literate writers?

Does this bullsh*t cost money? Because if you pay for something like this you should probably just go ahead and eliminate yourself from the gene pool.

Psychopusher 2009-01-08 04:03:09 PM
It's stupid, sure, but SoundExchange are still gonna try and extract royalties from him somehow.

It provides the user with a unique public image that proclaims loudly and proudly; "I'm much stupider than you can even imagine".

At least its go that goin for it.

Satanic_Hamster 2009-01-09 01:47:50 PM
This has to be one of the dumbest things I've heard so far this year.

And I hope that the runners of this station find some way to make tons of money doing it.
