"I don't work on January 8th, 'cause it's Elvis' birthday."

Things obviously ended badly for him, but there's no way around the fact that that dude was immensely cool. He looked great, he sounded great, he moved great. He was rock-and-roll cool before anyone even knew what it was or how to do it, he created the template. Happy Birthday, E. Too bad your manager was a jackass and you ended up doing lame movies and bad Vegas gigs.

Elvis Presley embodied the true spirit of what Rock N' Roll could have and would have been.

If he was alive today, he still be creating classics.

Happy 74th Birthday, Elvis!

Elvis and the Beatles - link has a lot of good things to sat about him by the Beatles but also

JOHN At first we couldn't make him out. I asked him if he was preparing new ideas for his next film and he drawled, "Ah sure am. Ah play a country boy with a guitar who meets a few gals along the way, and ah sing a few songs." We all looked at one another. Finally Presley and Colonel Parker laughed and explained that the only time they departed from that formula - for Wild in the Country - they lost money.

Link (new window)

JOHN LENNON Up until Elvis joined the army, I thought it was beautiful music and Elvis was for me and my generation what the Beatles were to the '60s. But after he went into the army, I think they cut "les bollocks" off. They not only shaved his hair off but I think they shaved between his legs, too. He played some good stuff after the army, but it was never quite the same, It was like something happened to him psychologically. Elvis really died the day he joined the army. That's when they killed him, and the rest was a living death.

/ me " or maybe like you john he got involved with drugs "
//there i said it ...

The two days I miss working in the Tupelo, MS mall.... Elvis' birthday and, umm...deathday.

So many people from all over the world would come to that small town just to goto the birthplace.

I worked at a cellphone accessory place....for a few days it was all "Do you have any Elvis covers for my weird cellphone that's only available in other counties?"

No.

He's a lobsterman on Swan's Island, Maine. He's put on a little more weight, and picked up the Down East accent, but you can still tell it's him.

All the Elvis you will ever need: Mystery Train.

Why is it so many Elvis "fans" focus on fat, pill-poppin', white jumpsuit wearin', fried peanut butter sammitch eatin Vegas Elvis but nearly completely ignore cool as hell, Sun Records rockabilly cat Elvis?

Love Elvis, but he didn't really "create" anything.
