Light Fuse Get Away: Cat owners: I can't get my new kitty to pee in the litterbox. Right now we're trying to leave him in the room with the litter box in it with the door closed (and some water and food when overnight) but everytime he comes out he tries to pee on the carpet. Any tips please? He's driving us nuts!

Did the previous owners have cats that peed on the carpet? Dump a load of white vinegar on the spots where he pees. The smell will be awful for a while but it goes away, and hopefully kitty will learn those are not pee-spots. Also you might try blotting up a pee-stain with some paper towels and putting them in his litterbox so it smells like the toilet to him. No expert, these are just my suggestions.

Our oldest is Abu Mushkala al Khet (ok, I have no idea how to transliterate that). It is arabic for Father of trouble.
His little brother is Lennard Allen Brisco. When he came home with us from the shelter we were watching Law and order and every time Detective Brisco made a snappy comment, he would meow.
/No idea how we decided on Allen...

My buddy's beagle is named Darwin. I laughed at that one.

ObscureNameHere: I always wanted a turtle just so I could name it "Hopesprings".

When someone asked "What's that?", I could say:

"Hopesprings a turtle."

Friend of mine had two geckos...they were dubbed "Art" and "Roman".
You guessed it..."Art Gecko" and "Gecko Roman".
Also named his grass snake "Rufus"...which cracked me up exceedingly.

The name Rufus means Red One...and the most noticeable thing about a grass snake isn't just his lack of legs...

2 Dogs:
Snoopy - He came prenamed. He is NOT a beagle. He does snoop though.
Mandy, aka Miranda, Princess of Hope. Her first owner got her when she (the owner) had cancer and named her for her hope that she would get better. Sadly, the hope worked for the dog, but not the owner. She is a sweet and silly dog. She is a Papillon. 10 lbs of stupid. If her ball falls under a blanket, it is lost forever.

2 Cats:
Louise - A tabby. Her sister was Thelma. She is loving and fat and relatively normal for a cat.
413374 - Aleeta, or Leet for short. She is a Tuxedo terrorist. She is 6 lbs of mood swings. She beat up Snoopy, the 55 lb dog, this evening. He appears to be deathly afraid of her at the moment. No kidding either - she is very sweet until the next moment when she is NOT. I think she needs bipolar meds.

My wife has had other cats as well, like PB (Short for Poopy Butt), Kuesse (aka Kisses) and Liebling. I had Duke and Worf. Yes, Worf. He was a warrior all right. Named by my son when he was 3.

My brother, a veterinarian, worked with a cat rescue group, and helped them find homes for some of the cats. You're away ahead of me.

'Lemon Drop' was found wandering the streets, clawless and starving. I don't know who named him that or why. He was cream-coloured with some topside markings that were kind of a dark yellow, but the name never seemed right.

He gained weight back - a lot, and this was a big-boned cat to begin with. He ended up looking like a great big bowl of French vanilla ice cream with butterscotch dressing. He liked to come into the bathroom when I was there, and liked to do this not in the normal cat way by pushing the door open just enough and slipping through, but by whomping the door open like stable gate. "Hey there, horse," I said once, and decided that was a better name.

My brother persuaded me that 'Horse' might be confusing on veterinary records, so I changed it to 'A Cat Named Horse'.

I got to know him better. Really big, really docile, really sweet, and really, really dumb. I changed his name to 'Lenny'. For records consistency, this was formally 'A Cat Named a Horse Called Lenny'.

Lenny had to go to my folks' when my own cat started beating up on him (when she realised that despite his much greater size he would not fight back). He died a couple years ago of an abdominal cancer. Honestly, the first clue was when he started losing his appetite. We'll miss him. Whatever the hell his name was. I don't think any of us really knew, except for him.

Had a cat named Sam, but my dog kept pestering the cat and I kept yelling "Duke... leave sam alone!" So, the cat's name became Sam Malone.

Kitty Foyle is named after a 1940 movie.
Aliases Ratbag, BabyGirl (even tho she's 15), Ima Get You Kitty, Cat of Elegance and Beauty, Miss Pantalones, or C-A-T (tap her forehead 3 times while singing N-B-C chime melody).

My daughter's cats are named after cheese: Monterey Jack and Pepper Jack. Her friend's are now using names with jack but not cheese. So there is a blackjack, magic jack, (magic eight ball?) someone was not clear on the concept.

My cats have stupid names for stupid reasons. One of them is Kosmo. My ex- named him after the Seinfeld character but at the time I was more interested in Cosmos, but whatever. The other one my ex- named "Spawn" because he was a little terror. Until we found out he was a she. Then we renamed her Ivy.
