He's basically the Brit pop version of Ghandi.

Who would've ever guessed that in a million years?

tisk tisk.... I fear that you have misguidedly besmirched Eno and for his i shall direct you to his first 3 albums. "another green world" "Taking tiger mountain" and "here comes the warm jet" : not that many bands can accomplish albums this freaking brilliant, let alone one person

think about that, next time you are home, masturbating to Pete Wentz' shaved chest while the new fall Out Boy is playing at top volume

Ah yes, the old "you don't like what I like so obviously you're an uneducated rube who likes what MTV tells him to like" routine. Very original.

Considering that he's on record as saying that he wants to make music that's played in the background as people go about their daily lives and made a shiat ton of money for recording the Windows 95 startup sound, I think calling Brian Eno muzak is pretty apt. It's elevator music. Just because all the kids at Hot Topic haven't heard of something doesn't mean it sucks less.

ahem.
did you forget "Before and After Science"? :-P

that's probably my favourite Eno album.

While they're all pretty damn close to each other, here's my order, 70's style:
1. Before and After Science
2. Here Comes the Warm Jets
3. Another Green World
4. Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy

[3 and four are basically a tie]

and yes, i had to think long and hard about this list and its album placement/ranking.

/ music for airports is pretty good too, but i didn't include it on the list because it didn't fit in with his quad vocal albums.

but seriously, to the topic at hand,
when will this ridiculous sh*t END?
i mean didn't this gaza/israel stuff happen at this time last year??
is this deja vu all over again?
who started it *this* time??

Cindy Tells Me that she thinks that Israel deserves its land.
It's literally Driving Me Backwards. I tried phoning her again, but No One's Receiving because she thinks I'm the Great Pretender. So I left a message saying I don't want her to be Back in Judy's Jungle.

Nobody said a word about you. He doesn't fit the profile of the "self-important celebrity" and he has a body of innovative and influential work stretching back several decades, and probably thinks less about his own fame than you do. His work with the Long Now Foundation shows him to be interested in the next millennium, not the next issue of Tiger Beat. It is close to impossible for your personal tastes in music to not include someone he has influenced.

dmax 2009-01-06 08:28:50 PM
Strong recommendation for the incredibly interesting "A Year (With Swollen Appendices)" - his diary of a year, oddly enough.

It reads like HTML - with an aside here or there that you have to head to another part of the book to read. Entertaining, thoughtful, and a little bit different than your average "star" diary.

But, honestly, I don't think that he's the best person to step up to the plate and make a political speech - whether he's right or wrong. The fact that he's an "entertainer" of some sort (which shouldn't really trump the fact that he's a forward-thinking big-picture Artist) makes his opinion subject to the derision that we're seeing here.

Taking Tiger Mountain is the highpoint of Eno's body of work. Followed closely by his participation on the Talking Head's Remain in Light.

"Remain in Light" is an amazing album, but I'd consider "The Catherine Wheel" as the Byrne/Eno masterpiece, at least in terms of innovation.

Why no mention of "Before and After Science"?

Just as good as the other three always mentioned.

I was jamming with my band recently and fooled myself into thinking I had just spontaneously come up with this amazing funky bassline only to later realize I was playing "No One Receiving"

personally, i don't give a crap what the "experts" have to say on the conflict right now... it's all just war-time talk anyway, everything that's coming from the tv and news is just self-aggrandizing propaganda. the only people who have a truly valid argument or voice worth listening to are the people who are trying to live in the area. and since i don't have a dog in that fight, the only voice that makes any sense to me are the ones that speak of ending the violence.

in other words, eno's comments are just as valid as some scholar/pundit/invited tv guest.

Actually, Brian Eno is the only musician I can think of (given that Glen Gould is dead) who is unquestionably smarter than anyone posting here.

Also, isn't Bono hopelessly pro-Israel?
