Psychologists say there could be a problem if and when these women stop interacting socially with others in their life.

Whaddya mean, IF?

i tried to watch the show 'my fake baby' on bbc america. it was kinda disturbing. i had to turn it off after 5 minutes. the level of crazy made me thankful that they didn't have real kids

This is almost as creepy as the women who did pretty much the same thing with their miscarriages.

ThisIsNotSubtle [TotalFark] 2009-01-05 12:04:33 PM
Okay, sure. It's a hobby. But that doesn't mean it's not crazy.

Pardon the tangent, but I wondered what had happened to Leon Harris. He was one of my favorite CNN anchors.

Wait, women do that? Oh my, that just freaks me out.

"What's so wonderful about Reborns is that, um, they're forever babies," said Moore, who has grown children and grandchildren. "There's no college tuition, no dirty diapers... just the good part of motherhood," she added.

As a parent, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that having your love returned is the good part of parenthood. As opposed to, say, dressing a damned creepy inanimate object.

"In her Kansas City home, Moore even has an elaborate room for the dolls. She organizes birthday parties, bakes a cake and even invites guests."

If I was ever invited over to someone's house for a fake baby birthday party, I'd call the looney bin to come lock that person up.
There's nothing healthy going on there.
A 4yr old girl, sure.. a 49year old woman, not even close.

I tried to come up with a comment about that being okay as long as you're willing to let people taste your precious offspring that didn't sound terribly wrong. But that comment didn't exist, so I made this one instead.

It doesn't get really weird, IMO, until they buy the 5-year-old ones and insist on breast-feeding them.

And the loon in this story admitted that she did it partly for the attention she got when she took the "baby" out in public. I thought it was interesting that her husband never made an appearance when she appeared on an entire segment of 20/20 the other night. Maybe he's fake too.

So true. And I wonder what her children and grandchildren think about all this.

You apparently missed the one on men and the dolls they love. Had some real crazies on there. Here's the link

Memoryalpha 2009-01-05 02:18:47 PM
Hey, if it keeps crazy people from actually making babies this is a good thing. We've got more than enough crazy people as it is. No need for them to make more. If a doll satisfies that biological need then I'd contribute to a fund to supply them.

This is pretty much the same as those Japanese geeks who are having pretend "relationships" with sex dolls.

Eh, no different from adults who base their lives on what their imaginary friends tell them to do. Probably less destructive, too.

More evidence that, starting w/boomers - whole generations of people just don't/won't grow up. A number of years ago I recall "kids" [i.e. 17-20yr olds] going around with pacifiers. So, ok maybe they're not hurting anyone and it's not against the law, but I reserve the right to say all that shiat's just getting creepy now.

There's women who eat the placenta.

Some episode of 20/20 or another night time talk show did a show about it. Showed some lady pan frying her (her child's?) placenta.

Barf.

Your own quote says she has children and grandchildren. Yes she is a mother. She's farking crazy and playing with a baby doll, but still a mother.

I made it a little further than you. I got about 20 minutes of it in. I turned it off when one of the women was trying to make (if I remember correctly) her grandchild talk to the fake baby, over video phone.

Creepy stuff.

This was on TV the other night. One of the ladies looked like she was just full of crazy, and not in a want to pick her up at a bar for a fun night crazy either. More like I will stab you if you leave me crazy. Her husband was supportive of this "hobby" too. Guess he is afraid of what she would do with a real kid.

God, I remember that. I recall the black kids had "pimped out" pacifiers, with diamonds and all that.

I'm ashamed of my peers.

It seems that some "kids" are able to man up and take responsibility in their lives, unfortunately that's the exception, rather than the rule.
