Classic, pure classic. As I recall, the only instructions Prince had was to honor George Harrison by having fun. That he did and did well. Very technical and very clean. Well done Telemitter.

sweet! You can tell they all know it is -a moment- and they let him shine and take it out. Very cool.

Find better? Probably 50 but Prince still rocks the house. I contend that he is, and will be remembered as, one of the great musical talents in American music history.

People laugh when I tell them Prince is a great guitarist. I tell them to check out some of his stuff on Youtube. Now this video is going to be one of the vids I recommend.

Would like to see Prince on guitar, Lemmy on bass and Dave Grohl on drums. That power trio would lop off the top of your head.

It is a silly thing that people forget about him though he did go through a long phase where, it seemed, he refused to shred. However, anyone that questions his prowess just needs to listen to "Let's Go Crazy," especially the very end. Epic.

I was thrilled to see him on SNL a while back not only tearing up the fretboard, but also working his own pedals, old-school, as opposed to having a tech do it backstage.

Can't stand prince - the nutball is much too strong with that one. But he's a talent nutball and that was awesome.

with that much musical talent it's no wonder the rest of his life is weird

Not Prince hate here, but See: Any Kirk Hammett solo.

Maybe it was just the confides of the song he was playing, but that solo was very far from face melting.

Because anyone who knows/appreciates exceptional guitar playing wouldn't waste their time commenting on Prince's mediocre guitar skills.

Hell, I'm a fan of Metallica but Kirk's playing is so damn sloppy and imprecise.

I was skeptical of this video, but the little Chaka bastard pulled it off.

As far as finding other good solos?

Hmm..

This has to be trolling... are you trolling? I enjoy me some shred too but Kirk Hammett? Come on... Kirk was a one time Satriani's student and even Joe hates to admit it.

The average american palate is so strung out on fat and salt that we can barely taste the fine subtleties of better food. In the same vein that 'not face melting' solo had two things I have never seen with Hammett. Tone and nuance... Prince can say 30x's more with one note than Hammett can by getting all weedley weedley.

Sure, it's not all wanky and all like all the metal crap but since when is that a bad thing? With enough practice just about anyone can play amazingly fast, that's easy. Playing well and within the vibe of any particular song, now that's talent!

beerrun [TotalFark] 2009-01-05 10:56:09 AM
Great ending, too. He chucks his guitar up in the air and walks off knowing he just absolutely killed it.
The look on George's kid's face tells it all. Prince took an up until then rather pedestrian rendition of a classic song and turned it into one of those amazing moments in music.

unitednihilists 2009-01-05 10:59:16 AM
Where does his guitar go at the end?
He throws it up and it disappers..

Awesome!

stevegarbowski 2009-01-05 11:01:36 AM
no one can say a bad word about prince but that doesn't mean there are others who are better. I submit that many blues masters are better not in the sense of technical ability or sheer prowess but in that when you're watching an old bluesman play--there's something more than a man playing a guitar--sometimes it seems like demons and angels are coming through them. Check out any stevie r. vaughn playing the solo of voodoo chile

THIS, After seeing Prince do some amazing blues solos on T.V. I told my friends how great he was. All i got in return was Spock-like raised eyebrow looks . One friend is a big George Harrison fan so this clip may change his mind.

He's too much of a control freak to let anyone else do his pedals. Remember, on his first couple of albums he performed all the instruments.

Still rocks though. Why aren't there more rockers of color out there. Not rap, not R&B but rock. And how come Charlie Pride is the only person of African heritage to score on the country charts? I know why there are none in bluegrass, the rednecks won't allow it.

Yeah, 'cause nobody can play a great solo using the blues scale.

/ cept BB, Page, Jimi, Stevie, Beck, pretty much all revered rock guitarists, even Charlie Parker for chirssakes, one scale is no better than any other.

guitar nerds, take note : blues scales make for sweet solos.

Where was the awesome again? I kept looking for it in the video but it wasn't there. Sorry, but something in that song didn't mesh. I'm all for guitar solos if they actually aren't drowned out by the rest of the crap going on in the song.

Yea Tommy gets a little bummed because Prince is soloing over his beautiful, beautiful voice. Harrison is just laughing.

tailormadebassist 2009-01-05 12:20:48 PM
That was sweet. Tasteful, melodic and just plain beautiful.

I love shred as much as the next guy, but Batio just get's old, and most shred for that matter. Let's go up and down the fret board for 5 minutes. Face melting. Yeah.

Prince is wonderfully talented. Full of himself, but talented.

Ugh. And thats for the video editing, not for Prince.

I saw another Prince concert video and the video editing and cuts were so fast I had a migrane after watching only 15 minutes. Why oh why do they farking do that?? Just give me long views of him playing, Not him, then the drummer, then the back up singers, then the bass player, then the drummer, then back to Prince, all the the span fo 2.3 seconds.

The Purple Rain tour was actually the first concert I ever went to. Prince kicks all kinds of ass. I've been sending my friends this video for awhile. But it's not really melt your face off, I'd say it's more of a soulful warping.

Apparently the "e" in his last name couldn't make it to the show, so that might account for it.

Prince is rewriting the book of how aging rockers age well. He's really performing fantastically. I was blessed with second row tickets to his Musicology tour. I walked away in awe, and wearing an orgasmic smile. Michael Jackson could study Prince and learn a thing or two.
