MTV sucks and not in a good way.

jankyboy 2009-01-04 11:24:00 AM
Who still watches MTV? We have a 15 and an 11-year old and neither one of them watches that shiat. Not to say, however, they don't watch other shiatty programming.

And here I thought Viacom was going to do people a favor.

Wow, dozens of people must be excited by this development.

CaptainFatass 2009-01-04 12:07:49 PM
Yeah, this is confusing. It was my understanding that they struck a deal a few days ago to keep those channels, then I saw an ad on TV yesterday trying to scare the bejeesus out of viewers and urging them to call Time Warner Cable and demand that they keep those channels. I'm assuming that they bought the ad time anticipating a fight, then just let them air after an agreement was made? Kinda stupid, really.

Would anyone miss MTV if they took it away? I can't remember the last time I deliberately turned to MTV.

braedan 2009-01-04 12:38:53 PM
I think the bigger problem was that it was all Viacom channels, which include Nickelodeon & Noggin. I've heard that there were radio spots of Dora the Explorer crying and saying, "I might not be around much longer." Has anyone heard or seen those?

While I could give a crap about Mtv, if you take away my daughters Noggin (also Viacom) there will be hell to pay.

/also daddy likes his Comedy Central.

What? It's still on the air?

In my house, the only channels that exist are Discovery, the History Channel, A&E, BBCA and Comedy Central.

...and Cartoon Network at night with Adult Swim.

This is why cable will never do a la carte. I'd only have 5 or 6 channels.

It's not like MTV runs anything except for ads anyway.

If I had my way, MTV would be the first channel to disappear.

Even before QVC and the religious channels.

MTV is only good for the occasional Jackass or Wildboyz reruns. Other than that, it can die.

MTV's been pretty much worthless without Martha Quinn.

I was bored out of my mind one day over the Xmas break, and the MTV had something about people with Schizophrenia. That was good.

And then there was a show where they took spoiled teenagers & dropped them in the middle of BFE. There was one girl who was sent away to live with the Masai (liek omg you make houses with cow poop?). That was funny.

MTV is at least as entertaining as ESPN. I wouldn't care if either channel went away.

She was on Sirius for a while. I haven't heard her since the XM/Sirus channels merged, but a few of the other original VJs are still there.

Why do the ads only encourage you to call Time Warner? Does this not affect people who are living in a Comcast city?

VH1 Classic is showing 2009 classic videos in alphabetical order this week. They started on New Years Day. I have to admit I find myself stopping on the channel while I'm surfing. Sure, there's been a lot of crap, but I've also seen enough cool vids from the 80s that remind me why MTV used to be on at my house a lot.

Funbags 2009-01-04 10:49:01 PM
Treble: Does this not affect people who are living in a Comcast city?

Correct, only TW customers.

CLEARLY I'm evil 2009-01-05 12:04:47 AM
It's pretty sad. They're still airing the ads/hosting the sites that tell people TWC/BHN is gonna shut off their channels, and I'm still getting calls from people upset that we're taking away their channels.

I have to keep telling them it was resolved days ago. Jeez Viacom, stop being douches for once.

Also crying Dora is a pretty low blow. like I mentioned the other day, it was pretty surreal to be cussed out by a 12 year old.

I wouldn't mind if MTV stayed on the air so long as they changed the name of the station to something more appropriate.

Some suggestions:
Vapid Coonts TV
Unrealistic Expectations TV
Everything but M TV
White Noise for Teenagers

/at least my lawn plays music

I think having a two-hour primetime show called 'beating the shiat out of the vapid consumerist bastards who 'star' in our reality programming' would be great. I'd tune in to see anybody from My Sweet Sixteen get smacked in the face with a cricket bat, or to see Bam Margera forcibly castrated.

Isn't there a follow-up show now, where the parents deport their little spoiled spawn to remote locations like the Arctic or the Saharan desert?
