Sounds like the drawings i found on my parent's love letters. Talk about what can't be unseen...

So one figure was about to tag the other?

Nai 2009-01-04 11:18:57 AM
Honestly, I think that mom needs to chill the fark out. Her kid was doing something illegal (and tacky, AND vulgar) and I'm pretty sure that that police visit made that kid think REALLY freaking hard about how "cool" it was to draw stupid stick figures with spray paint.

But the mom is farking it all up by saying "oh my precious little snowflake!! He was without parental supervision while the cops fingerprinted him and scared the crap out of him to keep him from doing this again!!"

Kids need to learn consequences to their actions. And if these police officers hadn't found the kids "tagging" lord only knows how many stupid penis drawings would be around town by the time that kid was 15.

I see no mention of what the kids were actually using to "draw" the "stick figures with boobs and one with a penis".

Spray paint? No mention.

Oh, and the cops don't get to decide if they want to confiscate the bicycle. The boys weren't using the bikes to draw the stick figures, were they?

I'm not defending the mom or the kids, I just want some more answers.

How about this? If you're caught tagging, they make their "one stop" at the home of the last person they caught tagging, and make you tag their place. Then awhile later, the cops show at your place and someone you've never met tags your place. Then you sit and think about how cool that was.

I hear a lot of modern urban philosophy about grafitti and tagging, but I always wonder what those same people would think if it was their house or car instead of some building or bridge that 'no one' or 'everyone' owns.

I should probably amend this before I get piled on. I don't hate all graffiti. Some of it is truly stunning art. I'm not talking about that.

Tagging is my real beef. It's never nice to look at. And the mentality of taggers is just retarded. True graffiti artists carefully choose a site and evaluate whether it's an appropriate place for that kind of art. Even some taggers are good about this. There was an enormous tag, done up nicely, on a derelict building here that was eventually sold and refurbed. The new owners had to take down the wall the tag was on, but they cut that part out and mounted it in the entryway of a new restaurant in the building.

But ordinary tag-every-farking-surface-in-sight tagging is just stupid. The law prescribes different responces, but I think these losers should have their own property tagged, so they can think about how cool it is.

I loved the story I read last year of the bouncer who caught a kid tagging inside a bar with a paint marker. The kid was wearing an expensive shiny jacket. You can write the rest of that yourself.

Correction--that kid WOULD HAVE BEEN scared as fark if his helicopter Mommy hadn't gone to the press complaining about "ramifications" and "just wanting to get this out there". Completely undermined everything the cops were trying to do.

The cops could have been real douchebags & actually charged him, but instead decided to do the right thing & just scare the crap out of him. Good on the cops, esp. the one with the foresight to assure the mother that her son was okay when she answered the door. Too bad there aren't any laws against ineffective parenting.

I don't like taggers one bit. Half of them can't spell right, and the other half, when you can decipher the spelling and cutesy curls of the lettering (the "hand" or whatever the fark they call it), form words and such that only some other lame fark in the 'hood can decipher.

I understand the differences between tagging, graffiti, and street art. I would much rather see something akin to a Banksy (sp?) than a random tag (at least it would be quality art, and have some political message too boot). I would much rather see some of that 3D street art that I have seen pictures of (Lego brick filling in holes in walls, other stuff that makes it seem like things are coming out of holes and such). Even the end result of things like the MUTO animations are a pretty cool result of street art and grafitti. You also have the old-school throw ups on NYC and Chicago subway/train cars.

But tagging? That shiat is boring, and does nothing to help a neighborhood. When I see it, I cannot fathom what the author was really thinking. It doesn't beautify anything. It doesn't seem to have any real message (except to others with similar mentalities and lack of skills). It does nothing to raise property values. What is the purpose? Why? Who does it benefit? If it is something so great, why aren't they spraying their tags on their own residences (then again, they probably are, lazy farks)?

Yeah...sure. She lets her kid run around with his friends in the street and then is annoyed that he's in a holding cell *gasp* without adult supervision. She's arguing her son doesn't know what "tagging" is, despite the fact that he was caught doing it. Finally, despite the fact that the officers were obviously trying to impress upon her kid that what he did was wrong and could have serious consequences without actually prosecuting or being dicks about it, she's loudly whining to the news about her poor baby! I'm pretty sure her version of "teaching the kid a lesson" involves something along the lines of going to bed without a second ice cream sundae.

Actually, the fact that they didn't charge him is supposedly also the reason they kept his mom (and/or a lawyer) from him. But if you're not charging the kid, why are you fingerprinting him, cuffing him, processing him, the whole enchilada? Do cops now get to arrest you and process you without access to an attorney (even when you're underage) even though they never had the intention of charging you with a crime to begin with? Is that right? If that's the way the laws are written, I don't think that's right.

Besides, people in a position of authority being left alone without supervision with some underage boy, and handcuffing him? Even the Catholic church doesn't want to be seen to be doing that..
