You forgot Norm's unimaginable plan:

Step 1) When ahead in the recount, claim "The people have spoken! Stop counting!"

Step 2) When the counting has stopped and you're down, LIT-I-GATE!

What else would you expect from some smelly, godless hippie?

ANd the fact that Coleman will be going to jail soon (The FBI investigation won't be too hard now that the former business partner of the guy who funneled cash to Coleman is cooperating with authorities) means a Franken victory is the most democratic result, as if Coleman got the seat they'd just have to appoint a replace in about 3 months

If the election were held today, Coleman would win by 10%. Without the huge Obama turnout, Franken would not have a shot.

That being said, it will be a sad day if Franken is elected. He is the left's equivalent of Ann Coulter. Anti-intellectual and full of vitriol.

Thus far, most of the appeals by the Coleman camp have been dismissed outright by the courts. He's just grasping for straws at this point. Minnesota is rank with the smell of desperation from the Coleman camp

hey, as long as he's a Democrat, it could be charles manson for all i care. we've had republicans out the asss for the last 28 years.
since 1980, we've had only 8 years of a democrat president. and since 1994, we've had only 2 years of democratic majorities in both houses of congress.
the results speak for themselves.

And if the third party candidate didn't run...
And if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its arse a-hoppin'

If you've read any of Franken's books, you'd see how he's not an anti-intellectual. His approach has been to dissect the right wingers, often using their own tactics, only with better rhetoric. The only problem is that it becomes wrestling a pig. He gets dirty and the pig likes it.

I didn't say that Coleman was a great guy, nor do I think so. It is the old douchebag v shiat sandwich conundrum.

However, I believe that the situation may have been similar to that of the run-off of Saxby Chambliss or the election of Anh Cao in Louisiana.

Without the large general election turnout Saxby won a runoff by a much greater margin. Also, Cao was able to win in a district that many thought could not go Republican. I believe that many Democrats that simply came out to vote for Obama would stay home and Coleman would win. How many one-time voters for Obama could really be swayed into coming out to vote for Franken alone? If the elections of Chambliss or Cao show anything, none.

El_Frijole_Blanco: Of course the Gore recount never got finished, what with that whole US Supreme court telling Florida how to handle the ballot thing

yeah it did...except it still really never prove anything.

"In the aftermath of the election, the first independent recount was conducted by The Miami Herald and USA Today. The Commision found that if all votes where the intent of the voter was clear were counted, Gore would have won, using any consistent standard for 'clear intent of the voter.' But if one counts only "undervotes" (when the vote is not detected by machine), and chooses not to consider "overvotes" (when a ballot ends up with more than one indication of a vote, for example both a punch-out and hand-written name, even if the intent is clear and both indicate the same candidate)[42] Bush would have won in legally requested recount scenarios. The independent recount therefore led to a greater awareness of the issue of 'overvotes'.
If all votes in Florida had been counted either under Florida law (which prescribes "intent of the voter), under the rules requested by Bush, or under the request by Gore within a week of the election to count all the Florida votes, Gore would have won the election. However, under the recount initially requested by Gore to include four Florida counties but not the entire state, Bush would have won. [43]

No I didn't. But I know that his radio program was no better than O'Reilly. If you didn't agree with him, it was over-the-top ranting and raving. That is why I said he was anti-intellectual. If you disagree with someone, you can debate it, like a civilized human being.

He, much like O'Reilly or Coulter, devolves into an epithet and ad hominem attack spewing monster. I'm sure he comes across as very likable on TV, when he is not openly debating someone. However, on his own platform, a radio show, he was just as bad as the two aforementioned anti-intellectual dullards.

Your argument might work for Chambliss, but it doesn't work for Cao. I'm an Obama voter from New Orleans who threw his first vote for a Republican at Cao. Regardless of the whole spectacle of the presidential election, we were just plain tired of Jefferson. I still can't believe he won the primary.

I never listened to his radio show, but I have read a few of his books and seen a couple of TV debates. Franken is definitely not anti-intellectual. If anything, he's just frustrated. He's been pulling apart the GOP platform and mainstream Republican lies for 15+ years now and little has come of it. Why do you think O'Reilly, Hannity, and all of them hate him so much? If their viewers bothered to read Franken's book and take the information honestly, there is no way you could watch them without contempt.

Franken's not perfect, but for a large part he does his homework and is spot on target against the deception and misinformation. Lastly, he cares about what he's doing and wants to really improve his country- I'll excuse passionate outbursts if that's what he's fighting for.
