Surprise, surprise. Dubya's closest aides think he did a heck of a job. I sincerely believe they enjoyed drinking a beer with him.

Medicare. Iraq. Bankruptcy law. Katrina. The economy.

Who cares what these people say? The results speak for themselves.

Once again loyalty trumps ability.

I absolutely love this eleventh-hour crony stuff. I'm sorry George, your legacy is going to be bad. A handful of staffers you send out to give interviews right before you're out the door won't do the trick.

Um, maybe you didn't notice, but we haven't had another terrorist attack on US soil.

A few years from now history will judge W. and when it does the results will be:
1) no terrorist attack since 9-11
2) no more Saddam Hussein
3) keeping a global economy afloat despite the over-regulation that dems pushed through forcing banks to give loans to those who can't pay them
4) a democratic Afghanistan and Iraq
5) the most racially diverse set of appointees in presidential history

/It hurts me much less to post this sarcastically, then it does to read someone else posting it seriously.

While I still do not believe that Bush will be judged as the worst President in history. I do have a feeling that much like Nixon, fark ups by Presidents for the next thirty years will be dismissed by the refrain, "Well, at least he's not Bush".

Code_Archeologist [TotalFark] 2009-01-02 10:04:54 AM
I Said: Um, maybe you didn't notice, but we haven't had another terrorist attack on US soil.

I have to argue against the validity that this was Bush's doing. I say this because I happen to have a terrorism proof rock which prevents terrorists from harming people in the United States. You only need to look at the lack of terrorist attacks that we have experienced since 9/11 to know that the rock is truly the power behind our collective safety.

I can sell anybody the terrorism proof rock for a reasonable price, only $1,000. It may sound like a lot, but can you really put a price on safety and security?

Um, maybe you didn't notice, but al Qaeda took eight years between the 1993 WTC attacks and those in 2001.

Um, maybe you didn't notice, but Bush was the President during the worst ever terror attacks on America, so you can't really claim he "kept us safe".

The whole reason I put that slashie in there was to avoid trolling the thread. I thought the troll would be too subtle without it.

My kung-fu fists were definitely twitching before I got to your disclaimer. The over-regulation thing in particular since I know multiple people of the exact same f*cking opinion, no matter how much I try to show them otherwise.

I got that from the business tab and a few friends who won't talk to me about it anymore. Drives me farking nuts everytime I see that argument.

This is the lamest attempt at legacy-building ever. This entire thing is basically:

"Be patient - history *may* show he may not have been the worst president ever."

Hell of a presidency.

Supercheeks [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-01-02 11:32:31 AM
I agree. I don't think there were any strings at all. I'm pretty sure Cheney had to shove his hand up Dubya's ass; he just seems like that kind of puppet.

If only the Republicans had a majority that could have stopped their dastardly deeds...

4) a democratic Afghanistan and Iraq

Detroit's democratic too, but it doesn't mean anyone wants to live there...

5) the most racially diverse set of appointees in presidential history

The sad thing is, it was too subtle even WITH the slashie.

And I thought it was bad back in 2000 - the wharrgarbl that's said in earnest nowadays is so off-the-wall that otherwise batshiat positions sound perfectly reasonable nowadays.

Of course, there was no foreign terrorist attack on American soil before Bush took office. Hell, even Clinton managed to stop Bin Laden on American soil.

As for the rest of your points:

2) no more Saddam Hussein True. And with his removal, everything is perfect!
3) keeping a global economy afloat despite the over-regulation that dems pushed through forcing banks to give loans to those who can't pay them Um...the deregulation (R) feeding frenzy had more than a little bit to do with our current situation. And only a fool could possibly believe that low income housing is the source of our current problems.
4) a democratic Afghanistan and Iraq Taliban back in Afghanistan because we pulled resources to Iraq - which now has a democraticlly elected government sympathetic to Iran.
5) the most racially diverse set of appointees in presidential history I guess race is the only thing that matters. Effectiveness?

Honestly, would you enjoy having people observe you day in and day out, endlessly crying out with judgements, without knowing WHY you did the things you do?

Folks keep acting as if they have all of the cards because Anderson Cooper or Christine Amanpour had a hard hitting story about something. The cold, hard facts of the matter are that we don't get presidential briefings. We cannot say with 100% confidence that we know everything he knows. Until we can, folks should hold off on their definitive judgements.

True. But, sarcastic or not, (and I will not pretend to greater understand than I really have) it needs to be refuted. Often and loudly.

This. But it does sum up his administrations entire approach to governing, deny the problem until the 11th hour and then make a half assed attempt to fix it. Enjoy the rest of your life being known as the guy who killed the Republican Party and the Reagan Revolution George!

Nonsense, if the Dems had Pravda type operations like NewsCorp and Clear Channel at their disposal and a grotesquely incompetent administration to protect in order to salvage their own credibility they would play the appeal to morons card just as hard.

Just as you don't need asterisks to type out god damn. I'll be waiting for that fiery bolt of holy revenge.

Whatever happened, and whatever was discussed, will come to the surface in due time. Right now people are working with table scraps when a little patience will reward them with a much larger set of data to work with.

if anybody is interested, vanity fair has an amazing oral history of the bush white house on its website. its 15 pages of people who worked with bush giving the history as they saw it. im surprised it hasn't been green lighted on fark yet.. but then again, with the sheer amount of petty bullshiat that gets green instead of genuinely interesting material, im not too surprised.

Bush does not equate to those people/group, at least he hasn't yet, who knows what the future will hold.

As for Hamas, my only 100% confident critique of them is their use of civilians as shields. Either get a uniform or quit using the populace as a crutch whenever you get your ass handed to you.

"They killed babies, and a commander!"

You killed the babies by putting a HVT next to them.
