How about not catering to some of the biggest a**holes in the world and helping the Palestinians get a new, better government?

How about fighting the massive corruption around the world that keeps poor people poor?

How about figuring out a plan to help Africa instead of just sending food and hoping things will work out.

The Gaza problem is not going to be solved unless Hamas is evicted and hopefully wiped out.

They are root of this current conflict.

Israel pulled out of Gaza, and Hamas is bent on wiping that country out.

There can be no peaceful coexistance.

Can this thread finally be free of the bullshiat memes?

• This isn't about Hamas started it

• The Gaza withdrawal was a method strengthen Israel's hold on its more numerous settlements in the West Bank and to freeze the (U.S. pushed) political process as a way to indefinitely block the creation of a Palestinian state.

This conflict goes back to the ninteenth century, and focusing on non-core issues is really going to get everyone nowhere, fast.

Wolfmanjames [TotalFark] 2009-01-02 10:32:46 AM
One under-discussed factor with the US is that because UNRWA is devoted to maintaining the Palestinians as stateless refugees, the international collection of Sir Humphrey Applebeys have a stake in aiding Hamasistan.

I am so glad Israel is telling the world to pound sand on this matter. It's a tragedy for the civilians of Gaza, of course, but Hamas wants dead civilians, Palestinian and Israeli. The latter are their martial objectives. The former for propoganda amongst their Islamic bretheren and useful idiots outside Dar Al Islam. Anyhow, Hamas did say the 'cease fire' was over. So they should be happy, even when their leaders get sent to their 72 rasins in small shreds.

The cessation of hostilities in Gaza is indeed a worthy goal, and it's not hard to see how one might be inspired to resolve the ongoing conflict. The current UN [and other] efforts have the same (if not slightly lower) chance of success that our friend DQ had.

Let Israel & Hamas go and handle this amongst themselves. Nobody else needs to get involved. They're grown adults. If they have a difference as to who's dick is bigger & they want to solve that dispute with rockets, tanks, and guns, so be it. The world needs less of their kind anyway. They are doing the rest of the world a favor by killing each other off...

...but should this disgusting, infantile piece of violence spill beyond the borders of Israel or the Gaza strip, both should be summarily nuked without warning. No radio broadcast to save the children who'll end up being suicide bombers like their parents, no flyers from high above, no warning whatsoever; just a good carpet nuking to clear the slate & start over.

Hamas, you're dumb for thinking that you're causing Israel any distress. They'd sacrifice their own if necessary.

Israel, you're dumb for trying to swat a fly with missiles. What, did the PMs wife cheat with the leader of Hamas? Ouch...

In summary, fark YOU BOTH.

...this shiat is getting old.

June 19 - Ceasefire between Hamas (in Gaza) and Israel.   [Reuters]

• June 20
- Israeli army troops near the border east of the southern Gaza town of Rafah opened fire towards Palestinian farmers working in al-Amoor, according to U.N. sources. No injuries reported.
- Israeli troops east of el-Maghazi camp opened fire towards Palestinian farmers, according to U.N. sources. No injuries reported.
- Israeli marine vessels fired towards Palestinian fishermen west of Beit Lahiya, according U.N. sources. No injuries reported.

• June 21
- Israeli marine vessels opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats west of Beit Lahiya, according to U.N. sources. No injuries reported.
- Israeli troops at the border north east of the el-Maghazi camp opened fire towards Palestinian farmers, according to U.N. sources. No injuries reported.

• June 23
- Palestinians fired a mortar shell into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli army. No one hurt.
- Israeli troops near the border north-west of Beit Lahiya opened fire at a group of people collecting wood, seriously wounding a 70-year-old man, according to U.N. sources.

• June 24
- Islamic Jihad militants fired rockets into southern Israel, the militant group and the Israeli army said. No casualties. The rocket fire followed Israel's killing of two Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, an area not covered by the ceasefire.

• June 25
- Israeli troops east of Rafah opened fire toward farmers, according U.N. sources. No injuries reported.
- Israeli troops stationed near Khan Younis opened fire towards Palestinian farmers. An 82-year-old farmer was seriously injured, according to U.N. sources.

• June 26
- Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a militant group belonging to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction, fired one rocket into southern Israel, the group and the Israeli army said. (Reporting by Adam Entous; edited by Richard Meares)
Then, the region was "mostly quieted".

On November 4th, while most of us were watching the U.S. presidential elections, another series of escalations started.  The IDF entered a refugee camp in Gaza to destroy a tunnel, then fighting broke out, where one Palestinian was killed. Then Hamas fired mortars, killing 0, and Israel launches airstrikes, killing 4 more Palestinians. Then things started to ramp up.
(November 14) At least 16 Palestinian rockets and an Israeli air strike shook the Holy Land yesterday, claiming few casualties and no fatalities but pushing a fragile five-month-old ceasefire to the brink of collapse.

"Both sides are in a kind of escalating cycle that is very difficult to get out of," warned Gen. Shlomo Brom, former chief of strategic planning for the Israel Defense Forces. "I am not sure the two parties are in full control of the situation."
....

Yesterday's flurry of hostilities followed nine days of repeated ceasefire violations by both sides that began when Israeli forces entered Gaza Nov. 4 to destroy a tunnel they said was to be used to kidnap Israeli troops. Palestinians responded with rocket fire, and hostilities on both sides have continued.

Israeli strikes have killed 11 Palestinians since Nov. 4.
In all, roughly 140 rockets or mortar shells have been fired at Israel in the same period. In response, Israel has closed its borders with Gaza and halted the supply of food, medicine and fuel to the territory

Just stop it now. Stop.

Well then what are they supposed to do, eh? They are toothless because they have to rely on others to fight on their behalf. The only way to fix this woudl be to give them a standing force.

You cannot complain someone is toothless then deny them teeth. That's hypocritical.

As for dissolving them and replacing them with only democratic nations? Like democracies can't be just as bad. How many people died as a result of US action alone in the last half of the 20th and the 21st so far? What about rendition, kidnapping, murder, secret prisons, etc, that we run and maintain?
