(Digital Spy) Interesting The Killers' latest album was put together by email. Which explains track 10, 'D1$c0unt Medz', and that song about the chain of coffee shops that refused to give free stuff to 9/11 firefighters   (digitalspy.co.uk) divider line 53

Put together by email? Are they so big of a douchebaggy band that they can't even see at each other without looking down their nose?

I've asked before, I'll ask again: how can a band with a good name like that suck so much ass?

FTA:

Flowers voiced his disappointment at not being the first artist to produce a record electronically. "I just read this article on that new [Brian] Eno and [David] Byrne record," he said. "They did exactly what we did. They emailed the whole thing, and then got together for two weeks and finished it. They beat us to the punch. We thought we were gonna be, you know, matadors."

Is there some sort of joke here that I'm not getting? Tons of electronic producers have done this already. Not just with email but using P2P and other methods of transferring data as well. I haven't seen them act so self-congratulatory about it either.

That throat clearing in the beginning of their radio hit "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is so spontaneous, so off-the-cuff, it's just so, so rock and roll!

"Yeah there's someone in the band clearing his throat on the recording, but we don't care, 'cuz we're f*cking rockers, man!"

Game over! Funniest headline of 2009 and it isn't even close!

Wouldn't FTP be a better method of transferring the large amounts of data required for an album?

+1 subby for the headline.

Did they really thought they would be the first to do this? Really?

Matadors? wtf? Ok guys here's an origional idea for you, become matadors and fight bulls during your concerts i really don't think anyone has done that yet and I'm pretty sure it would be more entertaining than just watching you play your, uhmm, music.

One of the best reviews (new window) I've ever read.

"I don't want to say The Killers are going in the wrong direction, but their third album made their second album sound like a cross between "Born in the USA" and "Nevermind" ... and I'm currently using the second album's CD as a coaster for ginger ale."

Wth? That was a sports article that occasionally had a sentence about other things. Sure, that was funny, but I don't care what that author says, if I get a chance to nail Jack Bauer's daughter I'm taking it.

The Killers are not doing anything new. Yet, because they're an MTV band, this is news.

"Are we human or are we dancers?" has got to be one of the worst rock lyrics in ages. I mean, even Gavin Rossdale must shake his head and think to himself "that makes no sense" when he hears that.

Lyrics like these make sure that next generation will grow up as dancers. Which is bad

Very true. I like the song. But that part (which is said over and over) is what keeps it from a great song.

Actually, I thought it was "Are we human, or are we dancer?"

as in, no "s" on the end of dancer.
which, IMHO, makes it even more pretentious i want to vomit aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrhgghhhhhhhhhhhhhhghghghgpfpfpfpffgfgdfg.

that being said, it's damn catchy, and i had it in my head for days.

but i heard another one from the album on the radio, cbc radio, and i didn't like as much...

I'm not going to by the album.

I'm going to go ahead and be "that guy" here, but I actually like The Killers.

Sam's Town had a couple of really great tracks, (Why Do I Keep Counting? springs to mind.) and their lyrics are actually pretty interesting if you step out of your literal mind.

/Haven't heard the new album yet.
/I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier.

There's also this site:

http://soundcloud.com/ (new window)

It aims to be a sort of producers hang out where people can put up tracks for others' critique without having a bunch of people rip them off and advertise them on torrent sites as "dubs" which are simply shiatty MySpace rips stitched together in Sound Forge.

Eh, anyway, it's a very interesting site and for electronic music there's already a few notables on there.

The Killers are awful.

Step 1: Get hammered and throw non-sensical random first-thing-in-your-head phrases down as lyrics, and sprinkle with some contrived high-school-goth-kid cliche crap for good measure
Step 2: Convince idiot fans that said nonsense actually has some deep meaning
Step 3: Take it a step further by speaking like a pretentious asshole at every opportunity using similar tactics described in step 1.
Step 4: Profit

Their first album had some decent tracks if you ignored the silly lyrics, but I swear these guys are the new Creed in terms of suck.

Nickelback probably looks down on them.

agreed.

I actually dig the new album. I really like Hot Fuss though and appreciate that they did it on their own first before it was picked up and remastered by the label. I haven't really had a chance to process all of Day and Age yet, but "Spaceman" "Joy Ride" and "World We Live In" are good tracks. I look for Spaceman to be a single for sure.

oh..and the "are we dancer" line was a reference or nod to Hunter S. Thompson, for anyone that cares. Maybe a little more obscure than "Bat Country"

The Killers suck. Seriously, in a contest between them and a band that I really really like, they would lose. Therefore they suck. Go listen to [name of album by band I like] instead, because it is much better and therefore all other albums by all other bands are total crap.

They aren't revolutionary or particularly profound, but they aren't too cliche or overly moronic and their lyrics don't make any less sense than any other popular band. Plus, their shiat is catchy. I don't get where all the hate comes from. Also, Day and Age is good, probably second to Hot Fuss, but all 3 albums were entirely listenable. Get over yourselves.
