(Washington Post) Unlikely Couldn't score tickets for the inauguration? Just write a winning online essay about what the inauguration means to you. While you're at it, you can also make a donation to the inauguration, but there's no pressure *wink wink*   (washingtonpost.com) divider line 20

Weren't the Fark Independents TM just on complaining about how much the inauguration will cost and how the taxpayer shouldn't fund it? Seems this would be seen as a good thing, getting supporters to pay for some of it.

Fark Independents TM should be worn in bathrooms, on beaches, and in hot/humid locales. Fark Independents TM should not be worn if the wearer's toenails are lacking proper hygiene or are diseased.

I would like it better if they auctioned off all the tickets to the highest bidder.

Came here expecting to see thought-provoking essays, worthy of Mr. Obama's praise. Found only snark. Leaving disappointed.

Yes, They are now complaining that:

A) Tax money is not being used
B) That big lobbyists are not donating millions of dollars for the inauguration

Basically whatever Obama does the 20%ers are going to manufacture some fake outrage about it.

So let's all laugh at them and kick them in the balls.

I was able to "score" a ticket to the "reserved standing area" on the capitol lawn from my congressman. This is probably the same ticket that Obama is giving away. You have to make a large donation if you want to sit during the ceremony, but the free tickets are still quite close. www.majhost.com

It has to be picked up in-person no later than the 19th. I was hoping I could fly in and out on inauguration day, but since I have nowhere to stay I won't be able to use the ticket.

Congress is working to make reselling these free tickets illegal and my ad keeps getting pulled on various sites, so I've decided to just give it away. I need to let the senator's office know by next Wednesday if I'm using it (or who's picking it up for me).

If any Albuquerque farkers are interested, I have only one condition: you get to go use the ticket and witness history, but in return for avoiding the scalpers, I only ask that you return to me the original used ticket/stubs and any other material you get associated with that viewing area. (email in profile).

Hang On Voltaire [TotalFark] 2009-01-01 02:57:07 PM
The whole thing is hypocritical. The MSM was all over Bush about the cost of his inauguration and that it was unseemly to have a celebration when the country is at war and/or the money could go to tsunami victims. Now....not so much

Revanche 2009-01-01 03:23:55 PM
Absolutely right, Hang On Voltaire. Its also hypocritical for the neocons to be raving about donations 'requested' when the citizens weren't even allowed to get the same seating last time around (unless a $200k donation by a corporation/lobbyist was made).

Just sayin.' Neocons loooooove to feel victimized, whether they actually are or not.

/registered Republican who votes best for the country, not the party

Revanche 2009-01-01 03:36:27 PM
Actually, a correction on my part. Not absolutely right. In fact, I'm gonna call bullshiat.

I'll make it easy for you to establish this, by only requiring you to provide links to articles from a few of the main stream media members, specifically, CNN, Fox, NBC (any flavor), ABC & CBS. Even just thse 5 only represent a minority of the MSM.

These links would best indicate that a) the expense of Bush's inauguration was too expensive and/or frivolous (with a relation to the war) and b) that the funds would be better off going to tsunami victims.

The standard was set by you...I lowered the benchmark to the biggest 5. I kinda doubt that any of them said as you indicated and that any touch of flavor to the contrary does not reflect upon the MSM as a whole.

I don't know much about US presidential inaugurations, and I know taking the following comment at face value is very much guaranteed to start a flame war:

It is very much like a coronation or royal wedding. I know people who still have their Charles and Diana wedding souvenir plates.

Arrgh, Fark ate the second prime. Though a 17 foot monitor would be interesting.
