so Fox is conservative and CNN is liberal? Jebus Cheetos, I clearly haven't been watching the news for the last decade.

in related news, 5 of the top 10 box office draws this week were given rotten tomatoes ratings of less than 50% (with 3 at less than 25%). therefore they are the best source of entertainment despite objective evidence to the contrary.

In other news, here is the Billboard top 5 music chart for this week:

1. Beyonce, Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
2. T.I. Featuring Rihanna, Live Your Life
3. Lady GaGa Featuring Colby O'Donis, Just Dance
4. Kanye West, Heartless
5. Britney Spears, Womanizer

Apparently proving that the five best musicians in the world are currently Beyonce, T.I., Lady GaGa, Kanye West, and Britney Spears. I'm obviously out of touch, because I haven't even heard of two of them, and I think the three that I have heard of all suck, though at various levels of suckitude.

Not to mention that CNN is about as "liberal" as USA Today

FireBreathingLiberal: In other news more people are familiar with the name Britney Spears than the name Paul Krugman.

That makes the pop slut better than the winner of the Nobel Prize in economic. Right?

Fox viewers are proudly stupid.

Smart people don't get their news from the TV.

It's because we "libs" aren't foaming at the mouth to turn on the TV and watch people who share all our values and ideals and opinions whom we can sit and watch and agree with and agree that agreeing with them is the most satisfying thing in our lives.

CtrlAltDelete: They both suck.

Well, that, too.

I'm sure a fair number tune in to FOX just to see what crazy shiat they say. After debate nights, we'd always flip over just to see the crazy "analysis."

Many people like to have their stupidity and bigotry praised and dislike risking exposure to information that might contradict their prejudices.

At least the ditto heads here will risk exposure to the wider world.

FeedTheCollapse: my bet is that Fox news gets more viewership based more on the entertainment factor than the actual news.

I don't think so. I think that a very high percentage of people who agree with the views they hear on Fox need to have their opinions validated and watch regularly.

This is the same group that tends to listen to right wing radio.

Their numbers are smaller than they appear because they are VERY likely to watch/listen. They need someone to tell them how they think.

Further proof that the right likes to look at pieces of ass (I'm looking at you Foxnews honies and Caribou Barbie), and asses in general (I'm looking at you Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, etc, etc, etc...) than to have actual news spoon-fed to them.

I hate to interject some facts into a good screaming match but...

This is what has happened to television viewing in the last quarter century.

www.thefutureofpublishing.com

On a personal note, we canceled our cable TV (I can't remember how long ago) and watch whatever we feel like (infrequently) streamed from the net.

The people still watching the "vast wasteland" prophetically named by Newton Minnow (of the Gilligan's Island Minnow fame) has never been more true.

That's right, a lot of people don't watch television directly due to it's intended appeal to the lowest common denominator. Those who still do more likely than not are the lowest common denominator - or, as many of us like to refer to them, Fox News viewers.

Why is this bad for "libs", again? The internet has been thrashing TV news for years now.

This is like winning the "best buggy-whip competition" for the seventh consecutive year.

Of course, Republicans don't have much to crow about these days. They can live it up a little for New Year's.

Nudge 2008-12-31 06:31:49 PM
I watched fox news on the election to watch their sadness as they lost... I, like many, others are still counted in ratings.

shower_in_my_socks [TotalFark] 2008-12-31 06:32:42 PM
Moderate and liberal viewers are spread out across two networks -- CNN and MSNBC, which, combined, have about 10% more viewership than Fox.

If you're the only game in town like Fox, you funnel all of the viewers into one spot instead of the rest of our competition.

It's like saying that if Apple made more money than IBM, that would mean Macs are more popular than PCs.

How did it fair against Comedy Central at 11PM (new Daily Show) and 8PM (prime time re-run of previous night's daily show)?

Unlike most TFers, conservatives can recognize when commentary and editorials are biased one way or the other. Only followers of the churches of Gore and Obama seem to lack this ability.

Also, China sells more manufactured goods than the United States, and Big Macs outsell fillet Mignon. The point is...? Cheap and shoddy best suits the lowest common denominator?

I should hope so, because that's all Fox passes off as "news"
