*shrug* Unless they have the votes to override filibusters they can put whatever schedule they want, they still won't get shiat done.

It's not like they can do any less this time around.

What was their approval rating last year, something like 11%? Both sides leadership figures were pitiful.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-12-31 03:18:10 PM
Pelosi is pretty much symbolic of a blown opportunity. Next we'll shift power back to the Republicans since they must be better than her... and we'll be in the same boat all over again.

How much longer til the Yellowstone volcano goes off again ?

I think it was around 2006 when the Dems first got control of congress. I'm not sure.

What are "San Francisco" values, really high rent and sourdough bread? I can deal with that.

Just for the record, most of us in San Francisco have the same values as everybody else: ensuring equal access to a level playing field; making a better world for ourselves and for future generations; hanging the mayor; maintaining strong ties with family, friends, and community; and lots of hot sweaty blowjobs and buttsex.

/yeah, like you don't want more...

Here is an educational video on how our government works. In it you will discover that things need to go through the Senate as well as the House.

So, you see, if they don't have votes to over ride a filibuster, then they can't get shiat done.

House bills don't go through the Senate. So they can do whatever they end up doing, and the Senate's idiocy can stand on its own. Constant filibustering will only further weaken the Republican position, as they will be seen by the public as completely obstructionist and partisan. Even I can't see them being that stupid.

And even if they agree on everything, we still need the approval of our Jewish Muslim Chinese Alien Left wing Right wing Gay Christian Atheist Capitalist Socialist Nazi Trilateralist UltraFARK current overlords.

Yes, well, most people have similar values if you make the terms vague enough. The problem is that people disagree vehemently on how to accomplish them, and who should be responsible for accomplishing them.

San Francisco values? Is that what it's come to? Really?

Given the choice between a bunch of free-spirited gay hippies and a gaggle of close-minded religious zealots - seeing as how we're assuming extremes here - I'd much rather deal with the hippies.

And Rice-a-Roni... It is the San Francisco treat afterall.

And didn't she say this back after the 2006 elections? I'll believe it when I see it, then again, with a Dem in the White House, they may actually be able to do stuff.

Just have to wait and see if it's GOOD stuff or not.

The linked article is about the House legislative schedule and House committee assignments. Nowhere were the words "Senate" or "filibuster" mentioned until your dumb ass brought them up.

How far away are they from a filibuster-proof majority? What, like two?

Honestly though, I'd be happier than a pig in shiat if they didn't get a god damn thing done.

verbaltoxin [TotalFark] 2008-12-31 06:34:28 PM
So Congress is going to pass even more non-binding resolutions, pay raises and more pat-self-on-the back legislation that doesn't actually help anyone?

I have no faith in anyone working in that building except for the cleaning staff. At least they do their jobs well.

Twelve years ago, I was on Jeopardy! I lost. That's when I discovered that they no longer give away Rice-A-Roni as a consolation prize. It was possibly the single most disappointing experience of my life.
