Do the Republicans these days have a campaign mode other than "waaahrggbblhhhh?"

sigdiamond2000 [TotalFark] 2008-12-31 11:10:35 AM
Psshhh. Fark Independents have been telling us for years that Bush is a socialist. Do you realize how incredibly difficult it must have been for them to fill in that box on election day? Twice? The sheer force of will it must've taken for them to vote for a socialist is a testament to their heroic, rugged individualism.

They did the work many Americans didn't have the stomach for. But where is their parade?

Everybody knows the GOP. If it's elections and it's stolen, that's the group to speak to. Pretends everyone else is socialist. Wishes they were socilaist. Even tells their President he's socialist. But he's about as socialist as he is a f*cking monkey.

Eddie Adams from Torrance [TotalFark] 2008-12-31 11:33:33 AM
The Republicans? Are these the same guys who have been wrong about just about everything for the past 8 years? Yeah, I'm sure that they're right about this.

Socialism is not being practiced anywhere in the federal government other than the banking industry, and even there it was originally socialized by the US Constitution and later given even more power with the Federal Reserve. These guys are idiots.

Yeah. I couldn't really work the Snatch quote in any other way though, even though now I've changed the meaning entirely.

Their half-right. The bailouts are the socialization of the banking and automotive industries to a degree, but he's privatized so many jobs that were once government-only that it still negates the trillions we've spent on buying private shares in businesses. As far as the egalitarian aspects of socialism, not so much.

It is more like Italian Fascism. Privately Owned, but Controlled buy the government. See the new mandates for Fuel Effieceint cars as part of the Bail out Plan.

Well if he is doing socialist policies what else are we supposed to call him. These bale outs have really made me see him in a new light and his legacy has been stripped of the prestige it wouldve had 2 years ago. The guy was a very good American president for a while but now hes just an American psycho, its like he lost his equilibrium. The liberal newsies are probably out of there minds not knowing how to spin this. There so used to giving him the shaft but now hes one of there own! His liberal policies are coming back to bite now though and these are harsh times. My friend got laid off from his job as a machinist and his stocks have plunged from 310 a share to Yuma (thats slang for nada). It will truly be a dark night when Obama is sworn into office but at the same time, it will just be a transition from one socialist to another and the new world we have to look forward to is bleak either way. Only the terminator of socialist policies can be our salvation, and his name is Ron Paul.

Yeah? Well you self admittedly have poor judgment. Some of us learned our lessons about the Republicans after the first Bush term. But some people are slow learners. Bring on the "Environazi" fun time!

Are you joking? That 'control' has been in place for years, ever since the EPA first started regulating fuel efficiency standards. In no way does our government have any say in the corporate decision-making of any industry aside from already existing legislation. We can't force GM to only build electric cars now.

"We can't be a party of small government, free markets and low taxes while supporting bailouts and nationalizing industries, which lead to big government, socialism and high taxes at the expense of individual liberty and freedoms," Solomon Yue, an Oregon member and co-sponsor of the resolution told the Times.

What the hell does he think his party has been doing all this time?
Should have started that little campaign 8 years ago.

We already have a little socialism, and it does us good.

Capitalism does us good, too. To a degree, anyway.

It's when either one of them is allowed to run rampant that the trouble begins.

Which is why they're half-right. The state gets a degree of ownership, which is one tenant of socialism.

But really, since it's the government that owns the stock, they can just enact regulatory laws that would force the businesses to do what they wanted to anyway, regardless of their status as stockholders.

Exactly, which is is what they were already doing (see globalwarmingpraiser's example earlier about fuel economy standards). The fact that we pump money into their company doesn't change a thing, really, other than our mindset about just how far we'll go to protect corporate interests in this country.
