While Sarah Palin is the Messiah of the right who often believe she will lead the religious right to political victory, I really don't see why she would show up in Washington bearing a cross at Obamas inauguration.

PoopStain: The last time I was in DC I think of the 10 metro stations I visited, two had working escalators. Some of those stations are like 15 stories down.

I fully expect a spate of "had a heart attack" stories in the news after Inauguration Day. Unless tempers get really short, I doubt there's going to be a huge increase in crime, but you never know. It could be exciting. I'll be comfortably about 3,000 miles away.

Even the most conservative estimates put 2 million extra people in DC that day...I'm pretty sure there's gonna be some crime going on.

Or you could use: "The Obama Administration failed to do their first job, which was organizing a safe and secure inauguration!"

Remember, if anyone connected to Obama does it, surely Obama meant for it to happen.

I think it would be pretty neat to be able to say "I was there" at the million man march, at the "I have a dream" speech, or at the inauguration of the first black president. I'm sure a large number of people will go to be able to say "I was there." Then at least your grandchildren would love you for more than your ice cream storage.

That hasn't changed. They have announced they are testing new seat fabrics though. So we have that going for us.

January in DC tends to be cold and wet. Mix in the fact people will be walking/standing for hours on end I expect a lot of "old person falls" type stories.

I'm staying home. I don't have tickets so I would only be standing outside watching it on a big screen TV anyway. Might as well be warm while doing it.

I don't understand the need to make such a large deal out of someone being sworn in. Sure, his family and close friends have a vested interest in that but others? Seems to be a rather collosal waste of money.

Did we have this type of ceremony when NASA hired Neil Armstrong? His only achievement was to be the first person to walk on the surface of the moon. I suppose that pales in comparison to starting the job of President. After all, thats only been done 43 times before.

What's wrong with a private little ceremony that can be televised to all of America? Or do people really need to vicariously live thier lives through others?

I live in DC - on 16th Street, up from the White House, and am staying far away from that area on the 20th. Or, at least, staying at home.

Everyone at work has been advised to take a personal day that day - most major streets and bridges into and out of DC are going to be closed to vehicles except police and charter buses. Metro is going to be a nightmare (and they're charging rush hour rates all day).

While it'd be neat to say I was there, hell, I'm a few blocks away no matter what. I practically am there. I'm looking at this like most people I know in DC treat, say, the 4th of July on the Mall. Everyone asks "Oh, do you go to the 4th of July on the Mall?" No. Tourists do that. We go to the roof of our (or a friend's) building and get a much better view without 523612623 people.

Yes, terrorism on US soil is such a huge problem these days, as evidenced by the spending of billions on security theatreprecautions and Big Brotherthe DHS and TSA.

Nobody could possibly think that we were doing all this for any reason other than to grow our power and extract more taxprotect you from the brown menace, could they?

Sure, if there's an incident, I'll eat my words. I don't think it's going to happen. 9/11 stands out because it's the only thing they managed to pull off.

Oh, unless you mean domestic terrorists? I can imagine some batshiat crazy, extreme right-winger, racist sumbiatch trying something on because they're all butthurt about the Dems winning (at a time like this, when they're obviously on the side of the muslims! Democrats are treasonous traitors!) and there being a black president.

Untrue. Folks like him are the only ones VOCALIZING it in those terms. Obama is being revered in religious terms by a few segments of the US and A without realizing it. Part of it is the fervor of electing a black guy to the Presidency (which is really astonishing), and the total relief of Bush leaving which even makes a lot of us right wingers happy. If you look for it it's there. As God is my witness, there is a Tshirt shop that does it's own airbrushing near my home. In the window was a shirt with a picture of Obama and Biggie smalls on a flag of dollar bills. I saw a shirt somewhere on 70th street in Chicago in which Obama was literally portrayed as Jesus. Halo and everything. It's sort of creepy.

Rosslyn (Blue/Orange) and Woodley Park-Zoo (Red) stations have the neverending escalators. Then again, I haven't been on the ol' Metro system in about three years. These days, I'd probably die of a heart attack just looking at them.

The biggest concern will be traffic. The entire Federal government has the day off, and with good reason.

I was working at a gas station in the suburbs during the Million Man March back in 1995. Other than selling out of Newports and Kools in about eight seconds flat, there were no issues.

/Staying the hell home, and playing Silent Hill 2, damnit.

nlscb 2008-12-31 08:49:36 AM
Metro will be a disaster. It can barely run on a good day now with too many riders not willing to pay the full cost of running the system. Forget heart attacks, people are going to fall in front of the trains because the platforms will be too crowded.

My friends, have you ever heard the terms Hajj and Kaaba?

You've probably heard our heroic troops refer to terrorist insurgents as "Hajiis". This is what those people (and I use the term loosely) call themselves after they've gone on a pilgramage to Mecca. The pilgrimage is called the Hajj, and those who have gone on it are Hajiis. So these are the most fanatical of the fanatics, the most terroristic terrorists in existence.

Anyway, every year they have this Hajj thing, and fanatical mobs swarm around a holy black rock called the Kaaba in Mecca. Look, Mr Snerdly, I can't keep all those foreign words straight either, but just bear with me for a second. This is an educational radio show, and I'm trying to educate our listeners.

So when these Mooslims pray to Mecca five times a day, they're actually facing the Kaaba. Well you can imagine what happens when a bunch of fanatics finally comes face to face with the black rock that they've been worshipping from afar their entire lives.

Every single year they have this Hajj, a few dozen people are trampled to death. Imagine that, a bunch of wackos martyring themselves for the sake of a holy black rock. Silly, I know.

Well, how is this any different from the tragedy that just occurred on the National Mall?

A bunch of wacko fanatics, who worship a black object from afar, travel vast distances to be in the actual physical presence of the object of their worship.

What. Did. They. Think. Was. Going. To. Happen?!

My friends, they should have KNOWN this was going to happen.

It happens every year.

In Mecca.

This was an avoidable tragedy. And they did NOTHING to prevent it.

And THESE are the people who claim that President Bush didn't do enough to prevent 9-11? Please.

We're coming up on a hard break, more on this after this EIB Network profit-generating commercial break.
