Canadian Canuck [TotalFark] 2008-12-29 05:01:21 PM
I tried to watch that but it was the same thing over and over again.

Klingon Penis 2008-12-29 05:01:33 PM
So, in order words, it was Coldplay, Katy Perry, and a bunch of crappy rap & R&B?

SoundScan ruined pop music. It sounds strange, but once a system was put in place to count the music that people were actually buying, America's tin farking ear began the slow death of the music industry.

I thought sales tracking proved that Garth Brooks was popular. (People were buying Garth at WalMart rather than Billboard hits at record stores.) How did we get from there to Katy Perry?

I'll take Katy Perry over Garth Brooks any day.
I'd like Katy Perry over me, for that matter.

Sounds like a McDonald's commercial.

Bit'O'Gristle [TotalFark] 2008-12-29 05:52:02 PM
Wow...it really does sound all alike. Suck.

Ninja Wicked 2008-12-29 06:03:06 PM
That was farking awful.

TruckSlut 2008-12-29 06:03:14 PM
It all sounds like one great big Nickleback song to me...

(that's code for complete and total tone deaf CRAP)

Girl Talk would have done a better job. And then been sued promptly.

So he cut a long instrumental bridge of that Coldplay song which really makes me feel like moving. And if the native BPM of an R&B song didn't match that Coldplay song at all, he cut a random quote from it and placed them over it, or tried to mask that by putting a different beat in between. If it did match kinda closely, he used 20 seconds of it, except for that OneRepublic song, which he used extensively. The sound quality of those lyrical parts sounds awful, too, which I'm sure is in part youtube, and in part an attempt at frequency cutoffs in Audacity.

I do make better mashups than that, but I have the modesty to not share it with anyone but friends.

And I don't call myself DJ.

VonAether 2008-12-29 06:26:09 PM
I love DJ Earworm. Good one, subby.

HappyHarryHardOn [TotalFark] 2008-12-29 06:28:02 PM
utterly pointless

Phegan 2008-12-29 06:36:30 PM
15 seconds.

Tony Stark 2008-12-29 06:47:37 PM
This is pretty unremarkable. Really nothing more than a couple of vocal cuts pasted together with no real vision or inventiveness. The samples are so short and limited that it really doesn't matter how the "DJ" beatmatches either

And "DJ" is in quotes because I'm sure this guy is another ipod jockey that put this together on Acidpro

tombotia [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-12-29 06:56:36 PM
The sad thing is this is the most annoying thing ever ... and it's indistinguishable from regular pop music.

Yikes. I like a lot of DJ Earworm's stuff - even stuff that includes source material I don't like -- but not this. Just doesn't seem inspired.

I think for the most part popular music tends to play to the lowest denominator anyways to attract the largest mass audience.

Stuff like Chopin or Mozart or whatever is really "music" in the sense that they follow their eras respective theories of harmony, counterpoint, etc. For example, they tend to start and end on the tonic, they have proper cadence points, the sequences use proper phrasing, etc, and so on.

Whereas pop music tends to play fast and loose with the theoretical side as to make something that is more psychologically attractive [also music videos can then focus more on visual appeal as oppose to auditory appeal]. Case and point, how many pop songs end with a perfect cadence, or really have any sort of true binary/trinary form. Proper modulation from one key to the next? etc...

Don't get me wrong I like listening to rock, alternative, trance, techno, etc. But my ipod has spent just as many hours playing classical/romantic era music as it has stuff from the 21st and 20th century.

To be fair to DJ Earworm, I don't think Girl Talk could have done any better with the same source material.

So if you take 25 of the shiattiest pablum of the year and mix it together, you can actually come up with something approaching mediocrity?

You can polish turds after all.

A lot of us aren't really bashing Earworm. It is just we KNOW he can do alot better. The guy is awesome. Check the guy out. But his source material for this year comp...well it was a weak year.

What the hell is wrong with Acid Pro? It is a professional track based music creation program. If you want to create a mix version of a song, this is the program you use to do that.

Ipod jockey? DJs don't need to carry around turntables and scratch, only hip hop mainly still do this. And DJs will use a laptop to transition between songs seamlessly, not an ipod. The only person bringing just an ipod is someone that going cheap at a party, and doesn't take requests.
