I'd credit the occasional sandwich too.

if he had to rely on American fans he'd be dead, because if there's one thing that unites America, its universal hatred of the Carpenters.

I can't see myself Karen too much about this.

Karen had the voice of an angel. The tribute CD some years ago by a bunch of pretty good artists belies the claim of universal Carpenter hatred. Like Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, David Gates of Bread, and Ron Dante, who was the Archies, the Carpenters are well respected by other adult musicians, even if talentless young hipsters dislike them.

Anyway, Richie, your sister was the show. Retire, relax. It's over. I'm sure you've got some money. Enjoy it.

The article mentioned that Mindi Carpenter's voice was like Karen's. Her voice isn't terrible and I do hear some similarity to her mother but I doubt she'd "make it to Hollywood" on American Idol.

This is a bit old, from 1993 to be exact. Still a nice tune.

Have this on cassette. Love it...especially 4 Non Blondes version of "Bless the Beasts and the Children". Linda Perry is a freakin' monster on that track.

/link hot from the oven.

Pound for pound, Karen Carpenter was the best drummer ever.

I (kinda) work in the Japanese music industry so I'm getting a kick out of this article.

It's absolutely true, though. Make it big here and you've always got a sold-out venue to come back to one day.

I see what you did there Subby.

Eww...I see what you did there.

Richard and Karen weren't Donny and Marie. Richard and Karen were a lot less annoying, plus they never had that "kissin' siblin's" vibe like Donny and Marie did.

/Karen was awesome, BTW.
//Richard is/was, too...I just hope doesn't turn into Billy Ray Cyrus.

Carpenters were great, amazing vocals, harmonies, good songwriting by them and others.

Her voice was pure unrushed silk, and I count her among my own influences vocally.

I still remember the day I first heard "Rainy Days and Mondays" on the radio and the impact that the then brand new song made on my adolescence.

It was elevator/dentist's office music then, and thank goodness that we eventually got to New Wave with Costello and Petty and Hynde BUT...

I loves me some Karen Carpenter.
