In-your-end-o innuendo

Clarification is always welcome in this confusing world.

Have you seen Obama's pecs? He could probably tap anyone he wanted in San Francisco.

Obama hasn't tapped anyone from the [deep deep] south. i think that is funny.

He's not Bush. They'd be excited for a yellow dog as long as it wasn't Bush.

AndreMA: Wow. subby seems to have some... issues.

If it were any city but San Francisco, yes. But it's San Francisco; especially with an opening lede/graf/whatever you kids are calling it these days like this:

"California's intellectual pipeline to the White House is again open wide and flowing, as the Golden State will have key advocates bending President-elect Barack Obama's ear on its behalf."

It's a lot subtler than the in your face vulgarness of 'Mike Hunt'. Sets the tone for the whole article, if your mind wants to go there.

Wow. One of the weakest "trifecta in play"s ever seen. Both actual headlines aren't amusing to anyone other than a person desperately trying to read something other than the obvious meaning. (Huh huh, huh huh, hey Beavis, they said "exit only" and "tap", huh huh, huh huh.)

Like Memoryalpha said in the other thread, "Did someone go to sleep leaning against the green-light button?"

I tried working for an incompetent boss for 3 years. Drove me nuts. I finally had to quit before things got really nasty. Like me taking a dump on his desk. Being my skeptical self, I must say that I think it's too premature to claim that Obama is competent. A fantastic campaigner, yes. Competent as Prez? Who knows. I hope he is, but time will tell. The bar is set pretty low after the last few years, so he's got a good shot.

You do realize that to "tap" someone has more meanings than the more modern slang one, right? Like to tap someone's shoulder or designate them? Or to tap into a natural resource (in this case used metaphorically)?

greyspace 2008-12-28 07:35:26 PM
"taps", "pipeline", "Wide and flowing".

Most people in San Francisco would think oil or water metaphors. (Since oil is a big deal generally and water is a recurring story in the Chronicle.)

But you're thinking. "Everybody in SF is obsessed with the buttsecks! so it must have innuendo." Nevermind that the average age of a Chronicle reader is about 50, so 'tap that ass' would not be a widely known idiom.

/Born and raised in SF.
//Not everybody in SF is teh ghey.

California's political "talent" includes:

* Arnold Schwarzenegger
* Ronald Regan
* Richard Nixon

Obama should look somewhere else.

You must have a gift for fortunetelling.....unless you've confused being in "The Office of the President-Elect" and all manner of pre-appointments and posturings with actually being in office. Get back to us in 2012 and tell us who's competent.
