We let the same people vote for President and Congress. Anyone see a problem here?

From the article:

HEATH LEDGER's death has topped a poll of the most important showbiz events of 2008.

This headline = fail.

You want accurate headlines, go browse the AP or Agence France wire feeds for a few hours, sparky. This is Fark.

Americans are the most educated, informed, and witty people on the face of the planet. Did I mention peace loving? Well that too. God bless Americans!

SHOWBIZ events, subby. SHOWBIZ events.

Maybe you should learn how to read before making snarky comments about letting the masses vote.

Maybe it's just me, but the words important, and showbiznews strung together in a sentence seem to constitute a collosal oxymoron.

In case it hasn't been mentioned yet:

HEATH LEDGER's death has topped a poll of the most important showbiz events of 2008.

If you'll excuse me, my horse died the other day and I need to fustigate it.

Hey did anyone else notice that the article actually referred to it as showbiz's biggest and not just generally?

The masses don't get to vote on the news. We're spoon-fed what stories we're allowed to know about from news outlets...

...those news outlets get their stuff from FARK...

...FARK Mods choose what stories get green-lights, and which ones get censored with red-lights...

...Ergo, FARK Mods and admins now have a very frightening amount of control over the media whether they realize it or not.

/It's not FARK, it's NEWSPEAK!

I bet it's important to anyone wondering how they're going to cast the next Batman film.

This must be why so many garbage entertainment shows are on TV (and stories about rich pricks/biatches and their snooty little families, or millionaires and their small genitals, or whatever)... these polling places find the most hick white (note: not always white) trash worthless pieces of crap, ask them "what be duh newz in showbuiz?" and then we get more TV garbage.

It was important to everyone because of the last Batman film. As I recall, the fark thread went something like this:

Heath Ledger died
omg wtf
Wasn't he the joker?
Oh shiat what about the movie?
I am sorry for his familys lots
He was the joker, right? What's going to happen to the movie?
OMG WILL THIS DELAY DARK KNIGHT?!?!
OH NO OH NO
(oh the humanity picture)
Hey guys, I checked, it's in post-production
Phew!
What does that mean?
It means they shot all the scenes they're just editing the film
Oh thank god!
Disaster averted!
Uh... well he is still dead
Yeah but who cares? Dark Knight is safe!
Yay hollywood!

Indeed. If voting determined story importance, how would we be informed about the bloodsucking unions gaining unprecedented power under the Pro-Union Bush years where all forces in Washington gave them unprecedented leverage, which they're now using to destroy America's economy?

We all know how Bush and the right-leaning congress of 2000-2008 bent over backwards for Unions. Union cronyism is all over the Republican Party and Blue-Dog Democratic wing, who reigned supreme for most of this decade. If not for Fark selectivity, we never would have known this completely true story, which leads to the completely logical conclusion that unions (with their newfound power) caused the economic crisis.

Also, Barney Frank was behind "Ownership Society" all along. Bush and republicans were FORCED into agreeing with him.

After the recent article quoting Drew about his opinion of Digg.com, this headline was a guaranteed greenlight regardless of its veracity. I'd have done the same thing if I'd seen this article. Besides, we come to Fark expecting outright lies, half-truths, distortions, and intentionally misleading headlines. I mean, I do.
