(Some Guy) Asinine Nanny State threatens to fine anyone caught making noise on New Year's Eve, as well as seizing their stereos, TVs and DVDs. We'd give the Brits a golf clap, but that's probably illegal too   (thepress.co.uk) divider line 40

As an aside, we had mimosas on Christmas morning and the "don't pop your eyeball out of your head" warning was across the top of the cork.

"the authority's environmental protection unit said anybody planning a New Year party should let people living nearby - and not just next door - know about it in advance and tell them what time it finishes, as well as leaving them with a phone number and dealing with any inquiries politely.

"They are also asked to keep the music down to an acceptable level, to avoid booking DJs or live bands unless they live in remote areas, ensure guests leave the party quietly and remember that, while one-off gatherings might be acceptable, staging them too frequently may eventually stretch their neighbours' patience too far."

"Finally, they stressed that people should not drink too much lager or eat fatty foods, and to wipe from front to rear to avoid getting poo on their genitals, because that would give you a boo-boo."

Maybe they can do that to whomever has been setting off random fireworks around here at 1 am. Just 1 or 2 of them, enough to get everybody up.

Yeah tough guy, like any gun nut has ever successfully fended off the police without getting a good look at his own organs. The wet dream that the second amendment is so the people can defend themselves from cops and military is farking hilarious.

Oh and I could be wrong but I think gun ownership is illegal in NY.

According to TFA, it sounds like you can't have a DJ playing dance music inside your house until slightly past midnight on New Year's Eve, the one night of the year in which EVERYBODY is expected to party at least until slightly past midnight.

I, too, am appalled.

Hoo-farkin-ray.

Now perhaps the local council will do something about my neighbours who have about 5-6 parties a year when they hire a professional DJ rig, put it in a marquee in the back garden and play house and garage music at full blast until about 4am. Our house is immediately opposite their garden and we get the full blast - it's so loud my car keys rattle on their hook in the hall.

The neighbours are shielded from the noise by our house so they find it loud but no so much that they are willing to complain, and the freakin council will not accept a complain from one resident - even with video evidence, including partygoers peeing in the road.

Yup, wrong about that. It may be difficult to get a pistol permit, but it is legal. So are long guns and shotguns.

Targaff 2008-12-28 06:19:55 PM
Erm, a noise abatement notice? I don't think so; breach of the peace, maybe, but perhaps the Council should check up on the facts rather than issuing empty threats they aren't able to legally follow through on.

this is just the council trying to stop all the usual noise complaints you get from 80 year olds and misers every new years, that said I wish the police could use a bit of common sense - I admit many do, but too many like following 'rules'

Okay, not illegal but highly difficult for most guns. Point still stands that New York was a bad example of a place where you can have a good ole righteous shootout with the cops.

Not anymore, at least according to our Supreme Court. NYC is scambling to figure out how they are going to keep their unconstitutional antigun laws in place.

More likely they complain about her screaming, "Are you through in the F-ing bathroom yet? I need to pee! And you better not have used all my hand lotion again!"

Yeah. They should fight to win their absolute freedom in York. That way, instead of having the police show up to break it up in the orderly fashion, pissed-off neighbors can just kill all the partiers for being annoying douches.

Agree with an above poster. Anyone who's lived in a U.S. college town can identify with this. It's really not that big of a deal; the sad part is that law enforcement should have to get involved in something which should be covered by common decency.

When was the last time a cop in the USA went into a private residence and stole their stereo, tv, dvds, or cds because of a noise complaint?

It's not stealing. They aren't going to keep it for themselves or personal use. It's confiscating the source causing the nuisance. You can even get arrested for it and it's a second degree misdemeanor in some towns. It's a good thing because there's a lot of inconsiderate farkbags with bad taste in music.

So if I come into your house and leave with your stereo then smash it instead of keeping it for my personal use it's not stealing? I'm pretty sure that stealing has more to do with the act of depriving someone of the use of something they legally own by taking it from them and dick to do with what you do with it afterwords.

Also just so we're straight on this, you actually agree with and go so far as to encourage giving cops the ability to steal a persons car stereo and smash it simply because they (some prick cop) deem it too loud? Now I hate douchebags with loud car stereos as much as the next guy but don't you think that's taking it a bit and by bit I mean way too far. If not then "Sieg Heil".

You can own things legally and use them for illegal purposes. And if that illegal use causes a seizure it's your fault for not knowing the law. If you don't like it change the laws, join the ACLU, or break out the guillotines.

You're under the assumption the the constitution gives us the right to do anything, and that every single cop is the problem. I live in the real world and think the government can and will do anything to us (e.g. the last 8 years) and people won't ever think twice or do anything about it. So I try my best to not piss cops off.

And if I could rip out stereos and trash them I would. Thankfully there are cops to do it so I wouldn't get my ass beaten.
