dahmers love zombie [TotalFark] 2008-12-27 10:25:42 PM
I'd say roughly five percent of the male population has that particular fetish, if some studies are correct.

AirForceVet [TotalFark] 2008-12-27 11:17:00 PM
I would go as far to say 10 percent or more, Mr. dahmers love zombie.

You know I think I just came up with the scariest question of our times.

What is the oddest fetish in JAPAN?

Fano 2008-12-27 11:40:14 PM
FTA:"It's estimated that there are 25 million manholes in Japan, of which around 12 million cover sewers, according to the Japan Ground Manhole Industry Association. In 1983, when the sewer penetration ratio was only 33 percent, the Construction Ministry demanded that manufacturers make manhole covers with distinctive designs in order to raise awareness of sewer construction..."

What the hell else do these manholes cover? And why am I nervous about the bold print there?

Manholes are not just for sewers (sanitary or storm). Some of them are for other subterranian utilities, or access to subways.

Japan is a nation of obsessive-compulsives. They care about everything, including things no well-adjusted hukman being would give a damn about.

I think it's the two words "penetration ratio"

Yume_Ryuu 2008-12-27 11:45:34 PM
The manholes here can have a very elaborate design. One of the cities I used to live in had a design of a man setting off fireworks because fireworks were really popular in that area.

SuperCatBarf [TotalFark] 2008-12-27 11:46:22 PM
There's nothing odd about this at all. Manhole covers are generally very well crafted, and some makers, if given the chance, take the time to make them quite beautiful.

I dunno, Sewer penetration ratio might have done it, the adjective might have really taken it to another level.

Do they have to check the inverts on the manholes as well?

Watch out for the flapping tape measure when it comes up dripping.

smells_like_meat [TotalFark] 2008-12-28 12:16:18 AM
So when they come back with a manhole location at 37.00379573 lat and -120.8247654 long with their Gis level GPS does it still end up on the roof of a building, or is that no longer a problem?

Not that I don't somewhat agree with you, but there are otherwise-functioning humans in this country who can rattle off baseball or other sports statistics from memory.

Or even Fark memes from memory.

Depends on the GPS and the conditions. The unit we use sometimes returns positions that are absolutely fabulous, other times not so much. But we don't run base stations or anything fancy like that, which would help in getting better readings.

We aren't running survey grade or anything like that, we mostly use the GPS collection as a confirmation that what some engineer put on his plans is actually in the ground.

Snackly 2008-12-28 12:25:20 AM
I wonder if municipal workers have to sanitize the manholes before they go to work...
