Hi GaryPDX! While we don't always concur on politics, I appreciate very much that you at least think your discussion through. I really grow tired of the ones who just pop in, claim Democrats and liberals hate the USA, etc., and just say it over and over again. At least you have some logic to your opinion.

Um...

...don't the Kennedys live in Massachusetts?

Why is it that people from certain families can pretend that they're from two or three or four states at once?

Take the Bushes, for instance... Connecticutt, Texas, AND Florida? WTF?

Then the Clintons... Arkansas, AND Chicago, AND Colorado, AND New York?

This whole family dynasty thing is getting freaking old.

Let this Caroline Kennedy start off on the ground level, and go win an election for town council, or the local school board, or even as a community organizer for a few years... and once she's learned the ropes, then maybe she should be considered for the Senate.

As "retarded" as Palin was, she started from nothing, campaigned and won the mayor gig. She then became governor, something even the most smug TFer could never accomplish in a million years.

Let Caroline campaign a few times.

Lots of people start out in politics at the House or Senate level. Far as I'm concerned, when you're good enough, go ahead and slide on in at whatever level you think you're good enough for. Sometimes a mix of experience and inexperience is good.

As for family dynasties, nothing says one member of a family can't pass the necessary knowledge down to other members of their family to where they can hop in themselves and immediately have some idea what they're doing. For example, (the Udalls are awesome. Two of them going into the Senate at once is not a bad thing.)

That just addresses the underlying issues concerning Caroline's qualifications. As for Caroline herself... eh. All I'm really seeing so far is her running on her name and the fact that she'd really like to be a Senator. Which by itself-- I said a family name CAN be a good thing, but it is not by itself an automatic qualifier. I really haven't seen anything to separate her from Cuomo or anyone else.

I didn't talk about forcing anyone to do anything. You came up with that on your own.

What I said was... why is it that certain families, such as the Bushes, can get elected to the Governorship of two different states in the same generation, and had the previous two generations get elected to the Senate and then the Presidency of the United States from a completely different state...

...and we're all supposed to not notice that they're basically venue-hopping?

I mean hell, if the third Bush brother hadn't been hip-deep in the S&L scandal, that fat fark would probably have been Governor of yet another state.

When your national polical scene starts to look like the Character list from a George R.R. Martin novel, then things are seriously farked up.

All that's missing now, is some family named Stark to move here from Canada, and start showing off their "Global warming is Coming" family motto, before starting to marry their sons and daughters off to everybody.

Speaking of "statistics", I wonder what hers are.

If I learned anything at all from Hillary's run, it's that if you're a women in American politics, you're either frumpy, or a slut.

There's no middle ground. When Hillary wore pantsuits, she was frumpy.
Yet, when she showed even a hint of cleavage, she was a slut.

However there is little doubt that she went to "Rudy's Speech Makin' School and Auto Parts".

NOUN + VERB + "JFK" (or, my father) = SPEECH.

I'm Anxiously awaiting the arrival of this months Harvard Law Review.

It's the swimsuit issue.

jdamaral 2008-12-28 03:31:15 AM
Everyone in this thread has said something to the extent of.. Just because she's a Kennedy doesn't mean she's qualified

I beg to differ. Her father is JFK. Of course she's qualified. Not to mention, she's educated, went to Ivy League schools, etc. Assuming she doesn't understand politics is moot here, she's a Kennedy. She's got Uncle Ted on speed-dial(at least for a little while :|) and all the family connections.

I wouldn't care if she got picked and then learned whatever she didn't know already on the job. Then again, I really don't care who gets picked because it's only for two years and I don't live in NY.

/How important are senators, really?

Are you serious? They're not even CLOSE to a comparison. This biatch has NEVER held public office.

Never a mayor.

Never a dog catcher.

Never a Gov.

Palin is way more qualified to lead than this Kennedy Child could ever hope to be.

Advice to farkers......reserve your tacky jokes for some stupid biatch female who actually deserves to be mocked and ridiculed.

One who has never put her shiat on the line and actually RUN for office. One who has never even taken the time to actually VOTE in elections....

Ms. Kennedy.

Let the nasty jokes fly her way.....if you have the balls to be sincere....

You need to back off from the right wing talking point of comparing Obama to a "messiah" or some other higher power or royalty. It just makes you sound stupid? Even when you might have valid points to make.
