Nope, looks like he was just a regular soldier.

I hate fake veterans. If you didn't serve, STFU. Pretending that "you were there" is a insult to anybody who did serve.

The paunchy 44-year-old slouched, went hatless, and wore outdated woodland camouflage fatigues - the kind with the green, black, brown, and beige pattern, not the more modern design. The rank on his sleeve, corporal, didn't fit with his age.
Ha, I have met some paunchy 44 year old specialist in the National guard. that isnt always a give way. We even had one what was pushing 50 that was pfc, he was a specialist pretty quickly, he wasn't fat tho.

The rank on the sleeve is the dead give away. The Air Force is the only ones that do that in cammies.

Yeah, the "I'm an Iraq veteran" is replacing "I'm a Viet Nam veteran" amongst the bums.

Any time a bum tells you he's a vet, be suspicious. If you offer to call the V.A. or VFW to help out, they'll give all kinds of BS excuses.

And while we're at it, any teen that says "my parents kicked me out" are either runaways, or have a real good reason why they got kicked out.

So you're saying there is a good chance no one is looking for her?

texasjoe 2008-12-27 11:57:54 AM
It seems that every "poser" claims to have been a Navy SEAL, a Marine or have some sort of "I'd tell you but I'd have to kill you" story.

If you want to help a vet, give them a job. Or better yet contact the politicians to end that stupid war in Iraq. You can always donate to a legitimate charity after vetting them through Charity Navigator.

I served active duty, USN, 1983-1988. No, I was not a SEAL and have never claimed to be one.

I think the only appropriate sentence should be that he be parachuted into northwestern Afghanistan in full battle gear and allowed to find his way back to Kabul.

If he can make it back to an Army base, hooray!

The rank on his sleeve, corporal, didn't fit with his age.

Age is irrelevant. Just the other day, my father was trading Army stories with my uncle. My uncle was E-6 three times, and my father delighted in undermining the efforts of his CO by using the system against him. Hell, if I'd gone into the military I'd probably have done the same, but I already know the distinction between a superior officer and merely a higher ranked one.

Additionally, Guilmain - who had permission to solicit inside the store from the supermarket's manager - decorated a festive, if grammatically incorrect, poster proclaiming "MILITARY FAMILY'S FOR THE HOLIDAYS."

What's his Fark ID?

My favorite part: "It took every ounce of restraint not to rip this guy's face off," said Ford

I would have liked to have seen video of that. I'm pretty sure a jury wouldn't collect, either.

There aren't many crimes lower than lying about charity donations - it ruins it for all the legitimate charities out there because it makes everyone suspicious, and thus less likely to contribute.

We had a rather prominent ass-hat posting of Fark (wait, what?) who claimed to have been in the Marine Core. He's posting again from another alt, this time not claiming any particular affiliation. I think he used his refund from "Hooked on Phonics" to buy TF membership.

I agree you should be suspicious, but there are alot of Desert Storm Era guys that got overlooked. Offering the contact information is the best thing to do (VA Hospital, VFW, DAV, American Legion). We do take care of our own. Be beat the shiate out of fakers, but we take care of our own.

A while back, a farker claimed to be a Marine. He got away with it for a while, until he said "Marine Core." Baray is a play on the spelling error.

Sounds like a guy I had in my office not long ago. He was in his 40's and has been sent to me by the court for anger management. The first day I knew it was going to be bad.
He told me he was in the Army for six months. His discharge was Honorable. His rank went from an E-3 to an E-6. That's right... a Staff Sergeant in 6 months. He didn't even go to college.
It gets better. He was married to an ex Play-Boy Bunny.

I was so glad to see him go after 4 weeks. I told my manager that I would rather poke out my right eye than see him again.
A day later, she told me he was on my schedule for the next day.

I should have just poked my eye out.

If he comes back again, I'll take that into consideration. :)

So is this the logic behind hate crimes? Sometimes when a crime is committed it is particularly heinous because of the associations? Such as, if Madoff cons people out of money it's not as bad as this because he didn't pretend to have once worn the uniform?

A criminal is a criminal, regardless of his means.

Being a poser is one thing, hating a poser is another. Your pride, it's f'n wichya.
