(CBS New York) Obvious Caroline Kennedy says she'll have to work twice as hard as other candidates to get Hillary Clinton's vacated NY Senate seat - because she's a Kennedy. Totally not because she's twice as inexperienced   (wcbstv.com) divider line 54

As for you Smitty, Ted Stevens was quite experienced, and that sure turned out great...

Not like I'm too worked up about it, New York will pick who they pick, and that's the way it goes. I just hope the new senator doesn't hop on the "Video games are murder simulators" bandwagon.

That was so farking stupid...

Like Americans demand experience. We make American Idol number one for a reason.

We get what we deserve. Nay, what we demand. In politics, and music.

NobleHam 2008-12-26 09:54:52 PM
She's sort of right... people wouldn't be biatching about her lack of experience so much if she weren't a Kennedy. It's easy to cry nepotism. Never mind Bush and Hillary Clinton only getting elected because of their names... those are completely different. Right?

Bestbank Tiger 2008-12-26 09:57:31 PM
She has no business being a Senator. She's not a community organizer or a comedian.

FarKnight 2008-12-26 09:58:00 PM
"half as experienced" would make more sense since Hillary is fairly experienced.

atlanta_ufo 2008-12-26 10:02:18 PM
Caroline Kennedy emerged from weeks of near-silence Friday about her bid for a Senate seat by saying that after a lifetime of closely guarded privacy, she felt compelled to answer the call to service issued by her father a generation ago.

She said two events shaped her decision to ask Gov. David Paterson 11 days ago to consider her for the position if Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is confirmed as secretary of state: the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and her work for Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

Is Rudi G. her senate seat campaign manager ?

Huggermugger 2008-12-26 11:12:12 PM
I don't think she has the right temperament for the job of Senator. She's timid and has been so all her adult life. That reticence might be understandable, given the fact that she's been in the media glare all of her life, but it's not the right personality type to suddenly become a politician on such a grand scale. It just smacks of noblesse oblige and entitlement.

Or, maybe I just find Kennedys irritating. I live in Maryland, and her cousins Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Mark Shriver both spend decades trying to win public office here. They were both far more qualified than Caroline, but I still found them to be too arrogant to be able to focus strictly on their qualifications, or lack thereof.

Well, he was a state senator at least so he would seem to have been more experienced then Kennedy. I'm just wondering if compared to other senators (say Hillary or Franken or whoever) is she significantly less qualified). Basically, would she automatically be the least experienced senator? If not, I don't really see the problem aside from people being pissed about the whole Kennedy thing. But on that note, a good chunk of our public officials have been elected on name recognition from Hillary to Arnold in CA to Bush to Sonny Bono. Plus, if she sucks they can just get rid of her in the primary in 2010.

Maloney and Cuomo are both qualified.

I'll take either. But NOT that entitled precious camelot princess who is too blazingly clueless and arrogant to even realize why she shouldn't be granted Teddy's wish.

Anarchofascist 2008-12-27 12:01:22 AM
Paterson can see the shuck and jive that's going on. The "furor" around Caroline Kennedy seeking the seat is astroturfing from Cuomo (with, of course, backing from Republicans who are terrified of her.)

Shuck
and
Jive.

At least Caroline has the guts to openly seek the seat and not hide behind columnists and bloggers like Racist Andy.

That's also not what she said.

I didn't hear the recording of the first part, but the last part is "When this opportunity came around, which was sort of unexpected, I thought, well, maybe now."

It's not the best grammar but it's certainly not the gibberish that the monkey who published the article typed. It's a local TV package so it's not really meant for Internet consumption. The person who typed the article out is probably neither a journalist nor a transcriber.

But it is sort of unfair to judge Caroline Kennedy based on the poor transcription skills of some intern at a local TV news outfit.

(And if this is the transcript as presented by the AP, they need to hire better transcribers.)

THIS. After the party that gave us "I can see Russia from my house", they can't complain about Caroline.

LOL, that's what Tina Fey said, not Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin did say:

It's a fungible commodity and they don't flag the molecules where it's going and where it's not. In the sense of the Congress today they know that there are very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So that I believe that what Congress is going to do also is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it's Americans who get stuck holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here. It's got to flow into the domestic markets first.

and

We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state.

I can't believe anybody who voted for Hillary Clinton for this seat the first time she ran, who not only did not have any experience in elected office, but had never even lived in the damn state, could complain about Kennedy's experience with a straight face. Because this is a joke right? And Do you think Cuomo would be where he is without his Dad? I'm not saying I like the idea of coronating Kennedy based on family ties or that folks in New York should ignore her experience level, but to act like this is something new in New York Politics just so you can bash on Caroline Kennedy is farking ridiculous. And the reason Republicans are so up in arms about this is they know she could be the next big star for the Democratic Party read to run for President in 8 years if she gets this seat. If you're a Democrat do yourself a favor and support her in this seat. Anybody who upsets Republicans like this without even taking office is certainly somebody who is doing something right and has traits that scares the shiat out of them.

you rant like it is dec 2007 all over again. hil didn't have expereince as a member of the house, but did have experience in a role so close to her husband. caroline has neither expereince nor being near expereince in a daily manner. caroline kenndedy is only bringing her last name to the table and some non-profit experience.

caroline kennedy will be a joke as a senator, and ny will suffer.
