Does Ric Romero write for the WSJ now?

Free money for everyone! No more taxes! No more manufacturing! No more investments! We can just bail our ways out of everything yay!

So the WSJ is whining about pork that hasn't been approved yet.

I don't hear them complaining about how AIG is spending their money.

WSJ is complaining that some of the money is going to prevent prostitution. I suspect their actual complaint is that "hookers and blow" just isn't the same without the hookers.

To be fair, the local soccer complex was in part funded as an earmark. It has hosted between 3-6 tournaments per year and is used frequently during the warmer months. Their use brings a large crowd of people into the city, who all need to feed their precious snowflakes at area restaurants and occasionally do some shopping. The increase in tax revenue will likely pay for the complex in several years. The point is, earmarks for local projects do have their benefit, and I get aggravated at hard-line fiscal conservatives who complain about that and don't bat an eye at the waste in defense or health spending.

The problem lies in asking for "shovel ready" projects, for the more necessary stuff like roads/bridges, sewage, and schools, you need much more planning and there are a lot more actors on the stage and long term repercussions than for a tennis court or fitness center.

I'm not saying there isn't pork, but the mayors were asked to quickly come up with something they new they could get results on, so of course it goes to pet projects they have direct control over if only so they don't look more foolish for not getting anything done.

Prostitute re-education centers? To be fair, it's a competitive field. You've gotta stay on top.

I think a prostitute re-education program is an awesome idea. I know a few similar programs that have worked wonders for people down and out and, more often than not, addicted.

That said, I think a lot of farkers are seriously clueless as to what is pork and what is not.

Ha! So true. The WSJ is just trying to find something, anything to biatch and moan about after wholly supporting all the BS that put us in this situation in the first place. I think they forgot that re-education begins at the top.

I've got a prostitute re-education program.

In my pants.

Your mom's a prostitute re-education program.

I read that as America's MayorTM and then was hoping it would then say "want $9-11 billion..." Unfortunately it was not meant to be.

Actually, it was my understanding that what Obama had in mind as "shovel ready" were road/bridge/infrastructure projects that have been designed, planned, and laid out but just don't have the funding approved yet. Apparently there are tons of these around the country.

I just want 20K of Obama's stimulus plan.
And unlike the banks, I know I'll spend after the bailout.
:)

/btw...if you can blank out that credit record too for a "do-over" that would be nice...

You'll go out of business pretty quickly with only one position like that.

The re-education thing is a good idea. Prostitutes should be retrained to give it away for free.

I do love Republicans. They rail against teenage pregnancy, abortion, drug use, prostitution and a host of other social problems, but consider any attempted solutions to such things to be wasteful pork spending or immoral itself.

Not true. They're perfectly happy throwing good money after bad at useless solutions, like the War on Drugs or abstinence only plans

I'm an engineer for a heavy construction company. We do a lot of bridges for New Jersey DOT, stuff for New Jersey Transit, and other public agencies.

There are a LOT of projects that have been designed years ago, should have been done years ago, and have just been sitting around waiting for funding.

I recently finished a bridge that should have been replaced 15 years go, was designed 12 years ago, and had been sitting on NJDOT's shelves for 10 years. And let me tell you, they have a LOT of projects like that.

prostitute re-education programs?

Isn't that called marriage?

pjbreeze 2008-12-27 02:16:31 AM
Wouldn't re-educating prostitutes encourage them to charge more?

soj4life 2008-12-27 02:24:33 AM
so is mayor nutter looking for a hand-out also to fix his earlier rosy economic outlook? stop the bailouts and have governments/industry budget and work it out.

Prostitute re-education is an excellent idea, and one that should be pursued, even at the cost of higher taxes to CEOs.

Also, prostitution should be legalized and prostitutes should be encouraged to join a union.

I agree. No one wants an uneducated prostitute. Takes all the fun out of it.

Even these shovel ready plans will take years to start.

So much fail waiting for us in 2009.
