It's disgusting, but name recognition matters.

Hell, I admire Bush. I didn't think it was possible to wreck a country in 8 short years, but he sure proved me wrong. I hope to someday aspire to beating his record, and so I look up to him, learn from him, and hope to not emulate his few positive movements toward sustainability when I get my chance to wreck a country.

Bush is guaranteed 23% or so in every poll. So that's not shocking.

Are you the guy that goes in to the TV show threads to proclaim that you don't even own a TV?

What about mentioning that the bands you like didn't sell out to the corporate world?

I saw him scissor-kick Angela Landsbury. His poop is used as currency in Argentina. Obama's family crest is a picture of a barracuda eating Neal Armstrong. He breastfeeds John Madden.

One-third of the 1,008 respondents surveyed named Obama as their first or second choice, with Bush falling to a distant second after seven years as the country's most-admired man.
=====================

I wouldn't take it as a compliment for Obama ANY list which Bush was voted on being the top of for 7 years :)

/It's just 300000x as scary that it's 'admired'. WTF admires Bush?! I mean, maybe the 20% who are dilusional, but topping the list? Jesus Christ, people.

jcooli09 2008-12-26 12:49:12 PM
There is something wrong with a poll which has bush the most admired man.

I mean, a poll in which his name shows up at all, not just on top.

Nine percent of Americans approve of their President come Hell or High Water without respect of party allegiance or the character of the Man in the White House. That's enough to put any person in the White House at the top of "most admired polls". The same goes for the First Lady, although slightly more weakly.

Personally I admire Laura Bush because (1) she can open her mouth on occasion without putting both feet and a hand in it, which is more than any other member of the Bush clan can do, even those who married into it; and (2) she has lived with George W. Bush, Jr. for decades without the stupid rubbing off noticeably.

Talk about Teflon-coated(TM). She must be coated with something NASA and the Pentagon are not telling us about yet. If it repels stupid, we need to start spraying the world's public intellectuals with the stuff and get to work on the problems that people like Bush have created or magnified beyond comprehension.

Well if you look, he reached second place with only 5% of the vote. It's split so many ways that name recognition plays a huge role.

CaesarSneezy 2008-12-26 01:19:17 PM
People like my dad have this weird stubborn and ignorant pride when it comes to Bush. I really don't know what causes it. He is hyper-partisan and will attack anything Clinton did and defend anything Bush did. I can't find the reason for it. For example, pointing out that federal spending increased dramatically under Bush and a GOP Congress doesn't cause him to keep calling Democrats big spenders. It's all in one ear and out the other.

CaesarSneezy 2008-12-26 01:20:17 PM

Having seen Laura Bush in person, I can say she looks like Jabba the Hutt. Not as corpulent, but in the face, she's a dead ringer. Plus, she's got a continuously empty expression on her face, like she's either Brick Tamland-level retarded or Paris Hilton-level vapid.

She used to be an elementary school teacher.

Explains a lot about the success of her marriage, methinks.....

Let's make this simpler for you. My sentiments, in the form of a question?

What specifically has he done that warrants your admiration?
What qualities does Obama have that you admire?

The nail. I believe you hit it. That's sad.

I'd like to see Obama (and I believe he has the potential to) de-polarize this nation's citizens and lead them towards a realization of their own, and this nation's, greatness. It's going to take hard work and sacrifice. It'll be interesting to see/hear how many of his followers are willing to do just that.

I think one of his greatest challenges will come once his current supporters realize this man is far too smart to just hand over everything they want and thought they'd get by electing him

Because he thrust himself into the public spotlight without realizing that the media might actually look into his lies about himself and his situation, and then acted all butthurt when they did. That plus the content of every interview he's given so far.

Some of us voted for him because we think he has good judgment. It's not about "give me what I want," it's about "Do what you have to do to make America better...faster...stronger."

We weren't voting for a delegate (someone to just do what he's told) - we were electing someone who could be a statesman; who would chart his own course. I am certain that I won't agree with him on every issue and stance he takes in his presidency, but that's okay.

Again, he won't be a simple delegate - he'll be the President.
