Great idea, great song. Sometimes this one works sometimes it doesn't. B+

Has the definition of mashup changed? That just looked like a montage, albeit a good one.

Anyone here qualified to marry me to this video?

Although not a mashup, I will say, they don't make movies or movie stars like they used to.

Iggy pop is great... many of those movies are great. Together? Not so great.

It was like watching come cool film clips while listening to a totally unrelated song. I give the whole thing a C.

sonder [TotalFark] 2008-12-26 12:59:10 PM
That's not a mashup, that's a music video.

A mashup would be iggy pop vs GWAR or something, the same beats in either song 'mashed up' to make a new song.

Smitter fails.

horonto [TotalFark] 2008-12-26 01:33:21 PM
Not a mash up but still and awesome collection of clips.

Ebenator 2008-12-26 01:49:08 PM
Wasn't that just an old commercial for TCM?

I'm just now starting to get into Iggy a little bit. More and more, I'm appreciating how far ahead of his time he Bowie really was/is.

FTFY.

[half joking.]

I remember reading somewhere that Bowie admitted that Iggy Pop was his "guinea pig" for "The Idiot" and "Lust for Life". Pop wrote the lyrics. Bowie wrote the music / arranged it, etc. In a way, Bowie kind of "used" [right word?] Iggy as a wild template to do very interesting and different stuff that he might not've been able to get away with if he just sang / put out the songs himself. Sure, the "Lust for Life" album is more mainstream and poppy, but "the Idiot" is even more far-out than "low" was, in places. "lust for life" was more 'commercial'/mainstream than Bowie would choose be for at least 4 or 5 years. [1978-1983]

I salute you, that is indeed the best goddamn mashup I ever heard, and I love me some mashups.

This one is pretty good, too, although it has a completely different vibe.

Artists are not "ahead of their time". They are the time; the one they live in and therefore define. The superlative quality of the standard an artist sets has nothing to do with "ahead" in time.

Three excelent mashups:

1) Eminem vs Punjabi MC - Lose Mundian Tho Yourself Bach Ke

2) Blondie vs The Doors - Rapture Riders (Extended Clubdub Remix)

3) James Brown vs Prince - Sex Kiss Machine (Dmc Remix)

Easy to obtain olnine, somewhere...

Mashups are the best - introduced them to the Vegas DJ scene back in 2000

Gangway Fathead 2008-12-26 06:09:28 PM
Oh come on, the greatest mashup of all time is Girl Talk's Feed The Animals played from start to finish. Highlights include Jay-Z & radiohead, Nirvana & Salt N Pepa, Tag Team and Big Country, Shawty Lo & Elvis Costello just to name a few...

I have this mashup I do where I put googly eyes on some socks, which I put on my hands and move the end of them with my fingers so they look like they have mouths. Then I make up a different voice for each sock and make like they are talking by themselves. It's such a great mashup. Then we all make love. Such cool mashupinations.

Go Home Productions consistently puts out good stuff. At some point, mashups become sort of masterbatory, like the snake eating it's tail, but every now and then they are fun. And GREAT at parties.
I'd also suggest The Avalanches, DJ Danger Mouse's 'The Grey Album', and a band called CCC, which remixed the entire 'Revolver' album with cool stuff.
