I grew up listening to a very eclectic variety of music from the age of 3. I was also heavily interested in advanced concepts of thought, science and the metaphysical from the age of 6 or so.

"hip hop" was one of the genres I listened to throughout the 80's, and while there were plenty of "artists" and "groups" that lacked talent in the genre during that era, to deny there was any talent to be found= brain problem on your part

I've found that nearly everyone that enjoys 4 or more genres of music tend to be more intellectually advanced and/or are far more interesting than those that don't.

Glitchwerks 2008-12-25 10:31:41 PM
Actually, hip hop is still cool.

It's just that I prefer this more now.

Remember when submitter at least tried to keep up with the times?

siva 2008-12-25 11:50:49 PM
I like the song but the bass line and the refrain are both awful. I was a little too young and ignorant to enjoy hip hop at the time, but I gotta say I'm impressed by Ice T. Seems kinda lame that he's on Law and Order now.

SpeshilEdjukashin [TotalFark] 2008-12-25 11:56:50 PM
Funny how the paid subscribers were all like "Uh, no..." when this headline was submitted, and then when it went to the free page, everyone was like "Heeeeeeellllllll, yeahs!"

/No, that's not what I was tryin' to say...
//Or is it?

iron_city_ap 2008-12-26 12:15:34 AM
I remember when rap had something to say and stories to tell.

carmody 2008-12-26 12:23:49 AM
Yep.

ablank 2008-12-26 12:27:25 AM
I don't think this ever aired on MTV did it? ICE-T on MTV? Really?

Maybe late at night or something...

Anyway, yes, Ice-T was my favorite rapper (well, and the Fresh Prince... yeah sorry).

ablank 2008-12-26 12:30:03 AM
... Also, sampling Curtis Mayfield is pretty great.

SuperCatBarf [TotalFark] 2008-12-26 12:31:11 AM
The first time I saw Ice-T was on Night Flight. I don't quite remember if there was an interview or what, but I remember it was Ice-T with Afrika Islam, and I wasn't sure at the time if it was real or parody.

TSE 2008-12-26 12:39:25 AM
Old people are funny. Especially the ones who aren't actually old.

yousmellysmellycack: submitter: Remember when hip-hop used to be cool?

I still have no idea what delineates hip-hop from rap. I cannot work on subby's problem until I get myself straight.

Intellectuals listen to hip hop.
"Others" listen to rap.

The bass and drum samples, and vocal production (not to mention the vocal flow and style) are nearly identical to Ice Ice Baby.

/Curtis Mayfield is still awesome.

browntimmy 2008-12-26 02:35:10 AM
It was cool in the sense that hair metal used to be cool. I just wish it wouldn't take as long to die off.

seabass242 2008-12-26 04:47:21 AM
I used to listen to this album WAY too much.

Public Enemy were still the greatest. (old school)
Wu-Tang and side projects are the greatest. (Liquid Swords ftw)

afghanwhiggle: Remember when submitter at least tried to keep up with the times?

Doom and Madvilliany bumped my interest in rap/hiphop back to Wu-Tang levels

I'm wicked pretentious though
