Whitesnake, Vanilla Ice, Journey and Scarlett Johansson fight it to the death

Can't they all lose that fight? Please?

God bless the listmakers. However, this list - which I guess are absolutely inessential - is composed of music that is completely unknown to most people outside of the media reviewers that got freebie PR copies.

How about cluing us in with some song samples/videos whatever?

Notably obscure and deservedly obscure are hard to seperate without any context whatsoever.

Agreed. I certainly am not going to go seek out the new Whitesnake, but I could have used a laugh right now

Forgive me, but I want to hear the Chipmunks do "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Livin' On a Prayer." I don't know why. Maybe because those songs beg for a high pitched squeaky voice. I know it's wrong of me.

Made it all the way to page three before finding a band I kinda like (Exodus). That's pretty damn good for me with lists like this. Also, Everclear farking with my man, Neil Young; not cool.

Journey's album may have been unnecessary, and Arnel Pineda may be a poor excuse for Steve Perry, but I'm still kicking myself for having to miss their tour this year.

Vanilla Ice is back? Who wanted him back?

Dear Fearless Records,

Stop with the "Punk goes (insert genre here)" comps. On second thought, just stop doing anything.

Thank you.

Seconded.

Every so often failed rappers somehow surface briefly into the limelight.

Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, Sir Mix-a-Lot, and Young MC have all come back at one point in time. I'm not sure why, but they did.

Also, when I say come back, it's sort of like how a dead body might float to the surface of a scummy pond, before it again sinks to the bottom.

I dunno... I just checked him out on youtube. I'd never heard of the guy, but his impression is beyond creepy; it's literally indistinguishable. If Steve Perry had to die or quit for a solo career or whatever, I don't think you're going to do much better as a replacement.

I didn't read the article but I did actually like one song off of scarlett johanssens album. Also she is hot.

I saw a show on that tour. It was quite MILFtastic there.

Vanilla Ice isn't winning this contest by a mile? really?

Vanilla Ice is like the most-leeched album at one of the premier torrent trackers. It is essential, in the sense that you must satisfy your curiosity, and that it can be appreciated by anyone 18-34.

So...the Chipmunks use autotune now. Wow.
They sound alot more annoying than what I remember.

The new Journey album is decent. The redo disc is creepy though.

I dunno - after he butchered "Ninja Rap" on his last release, I don't have much interest in hearing anything new of his.

Scarlett's album is far from the least essential thing I heard this year.

I find it odd how much Vanilla Ice absolutely loathes his old music, yet it apparently hasn't occurred to him to drop the Vanilla Ice moniker.

angrygrizzly 2008-12-24 04:12:57 AM
The funny thing is, Vanilla Ice's latest album sounds better than his first one.

It's not bad. It's not great--but I've heard worse. Much worse.

/I liked the Journey album
//it's a character flaw

Maybe your music doesn't add up...but at least being the nice eye candy Scarlett Johansson is doesn't make it hurt so much.

I've said it before and will say it again. I expected to hate SJ's album, but it's great. Not because of her singing, really. The production is lush and super cool.

really, he's no worse than Eminem, just ahead by about a decade

I wish I had known about the Alvin & The Chipmunks album before my Secret Santa party last week. That would have been the perfect gift.

I like Everclear because I had a very nice, chance meeting with Art Aleksakis at HoG in Rochester, NY. He was just a cool, friendly guy. They're a sloppy but easy-on-the-ears band... pop rock fluff about bad parenting.

But they absolutely destroyed, ruined, and desecrated "Brown Eyed Girl." I mean, that song has been done in cheese-heavy fashion by innumerable cover bands (ahem, sorry, including me) but theirs just takes the moldy cake. It is terrible.

I know why they chose it, though: it is in G major.

And Johansson could have been number one but for a malaprop. She should have called the CD "Anywhere I Head My Lay" (with enclosed pic booklet). I might have thought twice about it then, anyway.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2008-12-24 08:55:18 PM
Thank you, Miniac78, for dashing my dreams. That kind of sucked. The chipmunks don't put enough energy into their singing. I was hoping for a higher pitched more screaming version.

Sucky, or not, or actually sucky especially, I'm tempted to get it for my niece to pay back my sister for all the times I had to listen to Christmas music while visiting.

Dee Snarl 2008-12-25 04:19:53 AM
Exodus, huh. Didn't expect to find that there.

/thinks re-recorded albums are indeed a waste of time
//Vanilla Ice is an interesting case-study in something
