He's a big fan of Lincoln, as per his interest in "Team of Rivals." This is actually pretty cool. And it's a nifty headline.

Wow. I submitted this with an almost identical headline about one minute too late.

While I would MUCH prefer the leader of our country to be sworn in on the Constitution (and think that someday it will be commonplace to do so) - I don't have much problem with the practice of swearing in on a religious text (as long as they are able to choose with text, or to do without).

I would have to agree with you. I prefer that we have a secular government because I don't want the government telling me that I have to attend church or where to attend.

This however is Fark and religion as a general rule is pretty much a bad thing.

He's still swearing an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Not to mention that, even if he was an atheist, he would pretty much have to swear on a Bible because to do otherwise would jeopardize his agenda for the next eight years.

I was going to--just a little bit--but then I realized that he's (supposedly) a religious fellow and would probably want to swear on a Bible. If I were ever elected President (remember me in 2024!) I'd want to be sworn in on the Constitution.

This is doubly true today. All Republicans would have to say is "Obama is a radical atheist pushing a socialist agenda!" and 80 percent of the country would write letters and protest and riot until he finally threw his hands up.

Has anyone told this moron, Obama, that Lincoln was a Republican?

...and furthermore... As far as I am concerned, this is further proof that B. Hussein Obama MAY be the most megalomaniacal person to EVER be elected president of the United States.

Give him a chance to govern for Pete's sake.

No. He's a marxist/socialist for Pete's sake! Would you give Stalin a chance?

If/when restitution is declared mandatory, does he simply move cash from one pocket to another?

And does he get a full share or a half share?

It's kinda like Fark over there but without ads.

He was a Republican. But it wasn't a Republican President that called his wife when he was in jail.

Republicans gave up on African Americans when they figured out they weren't making them money.

Remember, Republicans were the Liberal party. Liberal economics (called classical liberalism) and liberal social policy.

East Coast Liberals were Republicans -- before they followed Kennedy and Johnson into the Democratic party over civil rights.

Freepertown leaves that shiat out.

Swearing on a religious text is a centuries old tradition, and is only a symbol. You're not swearing to uphold the text you're swearing on, you're swearing on your honor and your text to uphold the oath - in Obama's case, to preserve and defend the Constitution. I like this choice. Yet another outreach to republicans.
