I'm amazed of two things:

1) Shenanigans haven't been called.
2) This thread isn't Fascist.

But I'm not sure 'amazed' is the right word.

I'll let the Patrick McFitzpatrick dude do the investigations. He seems to know what he's doing.

And stop accusing our President Elect while we've got troops on the ground in Iraq. It's just not supporting them.

hey - if a palin-appointed board can exonerate her, then an obama report can do the same for him.

or is it only ok when republicans do it?

If you have been paying attention, I have said that I don't think Obama will change much of anything since I started supporting him after the Iowa Caucus.

I just wanted a non-ignorant person who sees the value in international cooperation and appreciates the complexity of diplomacy and doesn't use fear to rule. I also wanted someone who supports scientific progress and is willing to properly fund such efforts generously. I was also looking for someone who didn't get sucked into the usual political speak as much (unavoidable, but he's said things that politicians are not "supposed to" say, which lent some frankness to the discussion).

Glad we got my wish.

Ryan2065 2008-12-23 11:06:00 AM
How else is this investigation going to happen? Obama was never accused of anything by the authorities and I doubt he is going to hand over all his stuff to another group... His options seem to be do his own investigation or don't do anything.

BritneysSpeculum [TotalFark] 2008-12-23 11:26:02 AM
It seems to me that Blago exonerated Obama and Rahm from the get go. The issue here is whether Obama was going to "pay to play." In other words, would he be willing to give Blago something in order to get the Senate seat for Valerie Jarrett. Blago himself (or it could have been John Harris his CoS) said that all that Obama would give him for the seat is farking gratitude. If that is a crime, then lock up every politician (hell, most of politics is actual pay to play but I digress). The contacts between Obama and Blago are only an issue because of GOP desperation. There is no there there from a corruption perspective, but since the GOP has nothing else to offer, they will pretend that Obama and Blago are BFF and that Blago is going to be Obama's ambassador to Utopia.

Didn't he appoint her to his staff and take her out of the running right after his staff would have found out Blago was trying to get something for the appointment?

When you consider that Democrats have been saying that they'll be better than Republicans, more honest, blah blah blah, then go and pull the same things that the Republican party has while saying "OMG it sucks when you're not the only ones who do this crap, doesn't it?" then yes, it does suck.

What did the Democrats do here wrong exactly?

Hey, I still remember the days of republican shooing off REPUBLICAN memos about the Iraq war saying it was going poorly. Dems kept going 'Look, guys, even the republican memos say it's going bad... it's going bad'. Which, is still funny.

In this case, if it didn't clear I hope we'd have better response than 'Nah, I'm just going to disregard this.'

Corvus 2008-12-23 11:55:34 AM
please: The next 8 years of republican bawling and feet stamping over superficial issues are going to be tiresome.

That's what they do. They cry like a baby until they get their way.

They figure like Clinton if the call everything a scandal sooner or later they will either find a real one or people will believe the person is "scandal ridden" because they say it so much.

Can I try that?

"Yes, I.R.S., I will not be submitting an income tax return this year due to the fact that my internal audit shows I owe no taxes. Thanks for your interest."

sevon 2008-12-23 11:59:15 AM
You know, after my initial post, I realize folks like me are actually part of the problem. We know what reality is and that there was no wrongdoing by Obama or his staff or even significant connections between Obama and Blagojevich; Feeding the trolls does NOT make them go away. By even commenting on these ridiculous headlines we're giving them exactly what they want, our indignation, and exactly what they want, which is continuing to distract from anything that really matters.

If no one says the other side people will just believe they are right.

Blagojevich and Jesse Jackson, Jr. already said they didn't do anything wrong, now Obama's report will say his staff didn't do anything wrong. Fitzgerald can close his investigation, obviously the whole controversy is about nothing.

Remember, Cheney's Chief of Staff went to prison for repeating gossip. Negotiating an appointment, even if he don't offer enough to get it, might be a problem for The Chief of Staff Of The Office Of The President Elect.

BizarreMan 2008-12-23 12:13:23 PM
From TFA:

Two Democratic officials are predicting that the long-awaited report about aides to President-elect Barack Obama alleged contact with the office of embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will largely exonerate Obama's transition team.

Note the word largely. That tells me they are not expecting a complete exoneration.

Scooter was convicted of obstructing justice, lying to the FBI, and perjuring himself before a grand jury. And he didn't go to prison.

The headline is not misleading or BS.... The headline happens to be pretty accurate. The story - on the other hand - happens to be a misleading pile of BS.

If my fellow righties/Republicans are going to be trotting out lame-ass shiat like this and slapping each other on the backs then this is going to be one long motherfarking 4 years for me. Don't make me register independent, you dumbass bastards. We're better than this.

For fark's sake my fellow Republicans - save your farking energy for when an ACTUAL scandal happens. EVERY president will have SOME kind of scandal or example of poor judgement (we are all human and flawed, after all) so have the farking honesty and decency at least to wait for that instead of trying to exaggerate a situation in which it looks like he did the right thing and declined to bribe someone. Getting all worked up over this one just makes us look pathetic and ineffectual. What are we going to do next, complain about what a scandal it is that he won't steal something?

Ugh... It's going to be a long, embarrassing, four years.

This is the thread where two sides argue on entirely different points right? Democrats will say Obama did nothing wrong. Republicans will say Obama was dishonest initially about his involvement, but agree nothing illegal was done. Then both sides argue for about 400 posts.
