(USA Today) Stupid The Bush administration has designed a series of "exercises" designed to "test" Obama's ability to handle terrorism in his early days. Grab the stone out of my hand, dude. Seriously, it's right there. Grab it   (usatoday.com) divider line 139

Yes, it is quite stupid for the Bush administration to attempt to prepare for a handover of power. What dumbassery will he think up next.

This is the first wartime transition in 40 years, and it's probably the first transition in a couple of centuries in which our homeland itself has been under threat," says White House chief of staff Joshua Bolten

Right you are. He really should be giving Obama and his transition team the mushroom treatment. After all, they're durn liburl dumbocrats.

Bush and his people should be pissed off, petty and doing everything they can to make life difficult for Obama because their guy didn't win. Never mind that the peaceful transition of power is one of the things that makes this country great.

Coronach 2008-12-23 08:28:56 AM
This makes perfect sense, but they need to start at a point that Bush himself could handle after 8 years in office. Something like mopping up corndog vomit on that teacup ride at Disney.

So long as Dick Cheney is never again put in charge of war games involving NORAD, the Republic should be safe.

While I'm sure anything the Bush Administration has it'd grubby little hands in will end up as a colossal failure, the basic idea behind this is hardly stupid...

No, it isn't stupid, but the premise that Dubya and his band of merry cronies "know" what is best for the country, anti-terrorism-wise, is a flawed concept to begin with.

All of the tests begin with "Pop quiz, hot shot." and end with an ominous "What do you do? What do you do?"

serpent_sky [TotalFark] 2008-12-23 08:51:02 AM
Honestly, I think it's condescending. "Here are some little games for you, since you don't know things like we do." As far as I am concerned, Obama passed the only test he needed to -- he earned the confidence of the American people.

We can put the Bush administration up in the mountains where they can't bother anyone, come inauguration day, right?

You know, the idea of "getting [them] up to speed" is a good one. Whatever the "tests" are, I'm sure Obama's folks will work through them and use them to advantage.

Regardless of one's opinion of the current administration, this really is a non-issue made to look like a petty, condescending power-play by the article.

True, I'm sure many retarded individuals know how chew their pretzels before they swallow, unlike some members of the current administration. Isn't that like... you know... an instinct thing?

True, as I cannot think of a single recent example of anyone being determined to attack inside America in the early days of a new President's term.

Concerned about the first handoff of presidential power since Sept. 11, 2001, the White House also is preparing briefing books and office manuals designed to bring the incoming Obama administration up to speed in a hurry.

But unlike Bush, Obama and his staff will actually read them.

I suspect you might be thinking of the Siborne Model in the National Army Museum (which is the Battle of Waterloo), if not, here's a picture of a model of the Somme. Recreated in the distance is the 2nd Bavarian's ammo store at Aix-le-Chitole going up.

He needs to know what the current bureaucratic process is, even if he intends to change it.

I don't understand what's controversial about this.

No, it was definitely a WWI battlefield in miniature and it was at the Imperial War Museum in London right next to the "Trench Experience" exhibit they have... I saw it there back in '96, I think. Can't find it on the IWM website, though. Maybe it was temporary installation... or maybe I'm just on drugs.

Dubya testing someone on their ability to handle a terrorist attack is like Ray Charles giving Mario Andretti a driving test.

Nope. Nothing else.

Clearly, the most logical thing to do was just to sit there, blank eyed, for what seemed like forever.

Serious question, Is Obama planning on ending the war on terror? Or should we expect "Terrorist" using fear for political and financial gain for years to come?

Of course he is.

By surrendering.
